He fought in WWII to rid the world of fascist. Unlike Donald Trump and his relatives who never fought for anything but themselves.

He was the first person I ever saw who suffered from PTSD. Of course, we didn't understand that. I think they called it 'shell shock'.

The 2nd person was another uncle who was in the Pacific War. His first ship was hit by a torpedo. His second by a Kamikaze. His PTSD was awful. He drank himself to death.

He had anxiety and depression issues his whole life and cold/snowy weather really brought him down.

Factor into that a father who never ever made him feel he did anything right and you have a recipe for suicide, which is what ultimately happened.

Like many WW II veterans, he never spoke about the war except for snippets here and there, mostly about other soldiers. We would not know as much as we do if his youngest sister had not told us.
