(3,396 posts)THEY were never going to vote on this. How was the shutdown helping? They werent going to vote on it to end the shutdown and they werent going ti do it if the gov is open. The only difference is now the dems cannot be tied to it and ATCs and other fed workers might get paid. Shutdowns only work if the other side gives a shit if the gov shuts down.

Why even bother to shut it down in the first place? You say the fight is meaningless. What did we get out of capitulation?

(150 posts)Was last Tuesday so long ago that you can't remember it?
Not only were the Dems fighting (which the majority of the party wants them to do), they were fighting for the right thing, and the Repubs were being punished for it both at the ballot box and in public opinion.
But by all means, let's STOP doing what was successful and take another self-inflicted L. That will get voters excited to support us.

We should all ask MTG to oust him, or encourage her to do so.

(100,976 posts)You might be missing the point and her current hatred for mosesmike, I think she's going there as soon as the House is open for business. She's been ragging on him since the early days of the shutdown so let her rage and do the thing that needs to happen anyway.

(1,404 posts)They Cave Men got a promise of a Senate vote, nothing more.
So are the Cave Men not intelligent? Or are the complicit.
Years ago many argued that all Congress people should be forced to use the ACA. If that happened do you think these same Senators would have agreed to the Repub proposal last night?

Krasnov will jump through hoops to kill Obamacare, Johnson and Thune understand that, if a few Democrats do not.

(9,285 posts)It doesn't matter anyway because Trump would never sign the bill anyway. It didn't matter if the government stayed shut for a whole year, Trump's position on the subsidies was never going to change.

(9,647 posts)... after Trump does some sort of distraction to pull the media's attention away from the vote. That was the most laughable and predictable part of the surrender that they would give the Republicans almost complete control of the timetable.
I don't know how reliable the information in this Blueskye post is because I am not familiar with the source, but if true.....

(14,780 posts)The vote was meaningless. Thats the whole point of this. Getting a vote was never the goal, never worth a moments consideration. Getting the thing done was the point. Not holding some theatrics.
Trump won the only significant stand against his unchecked power that has come from any branch of government.
Mossfern
(4,652 posts)that Trump and his evil minions do not give one little poop shit if tens, hundreds, tens of thousands of Americans die of starvation, homelessness or disease. Just as long as they "own the Libs." There was no way from the beginning for us to win.
The reasoning of those Democrats who caved was naive at best. Considering the make up of congress there was no way that we could get the thing done in reality especially if Trump was needed to sign off on it.
What we need to do going forward it to publicize the callousness of the Republican party and Trump. Emphasize the suffering of Americans at their hands. You know those heart-rending ASPCA ads? Stuff like that - but about people.... hell, animals too.
The ads should start right now.

(4,652 posts)We need to strategize about how to go forward, not bemoan the actions of a handful of Senators, no matter how we feel personally about them. We need to focus and stay the course and not let a setback stop us.
Being angry doesn't really help the cause - not unless is serve to motivate the base to fight even harder.
Remember who the real enemy is.

Democrats inflicted this pain and then quit right after voters said good job.
Voters are unlikely to reward failure. Trump is unlikely to allow a close vote to have a fair result. This was for all the marbles and every sitting democratic senator just collaborated to throw the game

I do want to impose a purity test on all Democratic leaders - NOT one based on particular positions on any substantive issue - but rather on their willingness to fight this fascist regime using every tool and tactic available. If someone is either too naive or myopic to trust this regime, or if they just long for those "good old days" when Congress got along like a club, they have no place leading this party.
