Wealthy foreigners paid tens of thousands of pounds to become “weekend snipers” and shoot civilians during the siege of Sarajevo, according to allegations being investigated by Italian authorities.

An investigation has been launched into claims that gun enthusiasts and far-Right extremists travelled to the war-torn city in the 1990s with sniper rifles to pick off terrified Bosnians “for fun”.

I heard a story about a slave ship in the 18th century, where most of the slaves died of all sorts of illnesses on board. So the owner in mid shipment, decided he wanted to declare a 100% loss on his cargo of people he was transporting. He ended up throwing the few living with all the dead, out into the middle of the sea. One crewman reported that women and children were flailing in the waves before drowning.

So people have sucked for a very long time!

The Zong massacre was a mass killing of more than 130 enslaved African people by the crew of the British slave ship Zong over several days from 29 November 1781.[a] The William Gregson slave-trading syndicate, based in Liverpool, owned the ship as part of the Atlantic slave trade. As was common business practice, they had taken out insurance on the lives of the enslaved Africans as cargo. According to the crew, when the ship ran low on drinking water after a series of navigational errors, the crew threw enslaved Africans overboard.

After the slaver ship reached port at Black River, Jamaica, Zong's owners made a claim to their insurers for the loss of the enslaved Africans. When the insurers refused to pay, the resulting court cases (Gregson v Gilbert (1783) 3 Doug. KB 232) held that in some circumstances, the murder of enslaved Africans was legal and that insurers could be required to pay for those who had died. The jury found for the slavers but at a subsequent appeal hearing the judges, led by Lord Chief Justice, the Earl of Mansfield, ruled against the slave-trading syndicate owners, on the grounds that new evidence suggested that the captain and crew were at fault.

By the way, Hurricane Melissa just destroyed the town of Blackriver which was so wealthy back then that the town was the first place in Jamaica to have electricity.

Eduard Limonov, a Russian nationalist, was filmed in 1992 firing a machine gun down on the besieged city. He was accompanied by Karadzic, who was later found guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity during the Bosnian war. Limonov died in Moscow in 2020 at the age of 77.
