and surgically enhanced pouty lips asked to meet my St Bernard dog and take her picture. I said NO. If you dont share my values of common decency, I will not share my St Bernard with you. I protect my dogs from cruelty.

(84 posts)If we refuse to engage the ignorant and show them how they are acting against their (and OUR) best interests, they will never change.

.[MAGAs have never] given a crap about what Trump is or has been. Its all about the policies that we want instituted.

(27,792 posts)If they can't see what he is by now, they most likely never will. His supporters are clearly impervious to truth or facts; only their own "alternative facts" (aka lies) sink into their cranial cavities.
A couple months ago, I was coming out of the local post office, and saw a man coming down the sidewalk toward the entrance where I was exiting. I was holding the door open for him, until I saw his shirt which said, "If you don't like tRump, you won't like me." I waited until he was about five feet from me, then closed the door, and said, "You're right!" and walked off. He was probably pissed off, but I didn't give a flying f about it, and still don't.

You think they are persuadable if 10 years of first hand observation hasn't already made them see the light?
That's an illogical expectation.

(71,876 posts)They have neither hearts nor minds. Refusing to engage with them at this point is not malicious or short-sighted. It's protective coloration. We want them to not be Trumpsters. They want us dead. That's the difference.
I am an unashamed peace-and-love, campfire, kum-bah-yah kind of liberal. But even I know when to stop being walked on and start letting them have a dose of their own medicine.
That does not work and can be dangerous.

(4,645 posts)voted for Тяцмp because they were inundated with lies and were fooled into thinking he would be better than a democrat at a few things he claimed he would do, and a cult member - who can be identified because they wear his garb and fly his flags. The former can often be made to understand the error of their ways. The latter are essentially hopeless. If you wear Тяцмp merch, it means you WANT people to know what you are, and perhaps even welcome the looks because it makes you feel superior. Thats too far gone in my opinion.

(28,807 posts)So, I think if someone approaches me to take a pic with my dog and that person is wearing a trump or maga hat I would say, of course but you must remove your hat...I don't want my dog to appear in a picture associated with that fool.
If he or she removes the hat, maybe we can have a conversation.

(1,505 posts)I am a disabled veteran with a medically-trained service dog. He goes everywhere with me. He IS a very charming and handsome guy (a Red Labrador Retriever) and people are always approaching me. He has no less than SEVEN tags on his blue vest that identify him as a service dog, two that say "DO NOT PET." And yet I still get these maga people coming up to me and wanting to pet him. (I was told long ago by the agency that trained him that I am a goodwill ambassador for every other service dog and handler out there and I try to keep that in mind for the good of our community.) But, it tries my patience when I have to explain this to these dimwits over and over that he is not a pet, he is a medical service dog and he has an important job - focusing his laser like attention on ME. Any distraction from that could be disastrous for me. They look at me like I'm being unreasonable. I remain polite. However since the shutdown began, I have lost my cool with these people and have started to ask them if English is their first language and of so, are they literate. One woman became very indignant with me and said of course she was literate. I then pointed to the "DO NOT PET" signs and asked her to read them out loud to me. That shut her up quick. I fear my patience is reaching its limit.
