Stephen A. Smith should stick to sports

Sports media personality and oft-rumored presidential candidate Stephen A. Smith blew his top on Thursday as he blasted Democrats for releasing new Jeffrey Epstein files now when they could have done so four years ago when Joe Biden was president.

Speaking on his Sirius XM show Straight Shooter With Stephen A., Smith went into a furious tirade as he broached the topic of the Epstein email bombshell on Wednesday.

“Ladies and gentlemen, keep in mind that the Epstein files were in existence and free to have been open during the Biden administration!” Smith shouted. “You were there for four years. How come you didn’t open it as a Democratic Party then? What am I missing?”

Sir Trump is a blatant racist. You're being a useful idiot by standing up for him.

But I think the main reason was because of the Maxwell prosecution. Was that the actual reason or was it Garland just being well… Garland

I I understand at first the files were sealed, and it was kept that way not influence the jury in any way during the prosecution. Once she was sentenced there was no excuse not to release the files.

Smith may be a blowhard but he kind of has a point.

Sat Nov 15, 2025, 12:23 AM

(from Grok)

Biden’s administration emphasized maintaining the independence of the Department of Justice (DOJ), avoiding political interference in legal matters. Decisions about the Epstein files were likely left to Attorney General Merrick Garland and the DOJ, which may have determined that releasing additional files wasn’t warranted without new actionable evidence. This aligns with Biden’s approach to avoid using the DOJ for political purposes, unlike what some critics expected.

Also, from Politifact:

https://www.politifact.com/article/2025/aug/05/epstein-files-democrats-khanna-massie/#:~:text=Frankel%20told%20PolitiFact,protect%20future%20victims.%22
[Rep. Lois] Frankel told PolitiFact in an Aug. 1 [2020 - while Trump was President] interview that the House oversight committee wanted to hold a hearing at which they would hear from Epstein victims, their lawyers and prosecutors. They wanted to subpoena the prosecutors to ask them under oath "why they gave this guy a slap on the wrist, who pressured them?" Frankel said.

However, "We were told by the Justice Department to cut it off" because it could compromise the Maxwell investigation, Frankel told PolitiFact.

After Biden took office in 2021, Democrats appeared to dial back their public calls for Epstein records’ release.

"Pushes for oversight and record releases were at times tempered by a need to respect both the victims’ pursuit of justice in courts and their fears of reprisals," Wasserman Schultz told PolitiFact. "As disclosures were denied or delayed, we did what lawmakers do and legislated to protect future victims."

Not that I follow him closely, or at all, but I hadn’t heard him speak on the Epstein files before.

I don’t know, maybe the Biden administration was trying to pursue things like the J 6 criminals and the classified documents case, while having to navigate an incompetent and corrupt judge in Florida and a sycophantic SCOTUS.

the emails the Dems released recently are from the Epstein estate, aren’t they? Did the DOJ even have those files? Didn’t Congress request them from the estate? There are too many players here. The ones Congress is requesting now are from the DOJ, that the FBI has, or not?

was let go by ESPN for calling Trump rightly a white supremacist, well they offered her an ESPN+ show and she declined but that was at best a demotion but as far as Stephen A Smith why is he allowed to constantly give bad takes on politics and he is one of the main personalities on ESPN?

I liked ESPN better when Stephen A was just a guest from the Philadelphia Inquirer and wasn't a featured personality. Also seems like ESPN was a more prestigious network in those days.

Which there seems to be more of. Most of the primetime NFL announcers seem to be Republicans. I remember Colinsworth though with a different network at NBC said that Kentucky residents are proud people that don't want "handouts" after mentioning how Kentucky was impacted by a natural disaster. I think there was ad to donate to Red Cross for disaster relief.

Off topic but it seems like right wing commentary is okay in sports while Kaepernick, Hill, and most other sports figures on the left are discouraged from discussing sports or politics.

Stephen A. Smith will not be fired by ESPN because they gave him a 5-year $105 million contract. For the life of me, I'll never understand why they would give him that much money. It seems to me, he drives away way more viewers/listeners than he attracts. I, for one, will immediately turn him off the second I see his face or hear his voice. I can't stand him.

He is even worse than Smith, abominable television. Nothing at all enjoyable or relaxing about sports coverage any more. Horrible, had to stop using treadmill at gym cause both these assholes were on at the times I went. Just looking at them, with the scroll across the bottom of the screen, saying all these inane things, just made me angry.
