Italy has a woman as does Mexico. Both are rather chauvinistic countries. I know, I was married to a Sicilian. I was working in sales; he equated my job to that of a hooker. Needless to say, that the marriage did not last for long.

HOWEVER, THEY VOTED FOR A WOMAN AS PRESIDENT, yet we don't/won't!

state, including the new PM of Japan. According to what I just read, since its inception, one-third of the UN member countries has had, or has, a woman head of state. The supposed "greatest democracy in the world" is not on that list. It is not even in the top 25 in terms of women in government, or leadership in corporations.

the Emperor is. But it should be noted the entire thread is about whether we are ready for a woman to be elected not appointed.

distinction with the UN, since they were the ones who included her on the list. Threads frequently expand in scope far past the OP, a fact of which Ii assume you are well aware.

The Melania definition of "speak 6 languages." Led England to victory over the Spanish Armada. Kept a religious even keel after the tumultuous times of her father and sister.

But in most cases they were the daughters of previous rulers, so some of it was definitely nepotism and name familiarity. In many of those cases the women also had a conservative or authoritarian streak.

In developing countries Indira Gandhi of India, Benzir Bhutto of Pakistan, and recently deposed Sheik of Bangladesh come to mind. All three were in South Asia which isn’t known to have the best record on women’s rights, but they did elect a woman at some point nevertheless.

Of course, I’m thinking of Thatcher and Meloni in terms of conservative presidents or prime ministers of western countries. The current Japanese PM is also known to be conservative.

But Mexico is a very unusual case, and they elected a female socialist who also happens to be Jewish, which I doubt we’d ever see here.

in the Women's Movement, "Not all women are my sisters". There was also the comment that the ultimate feminist nightmare would be that we would finally get a woman president and vice president, only they would be phyllis schlafly and anita bryant.

She’s basically like, I’m not going to be the country’s savior. Find someone else to clean up this damn mess.

We already saw the torrent of racism that was unleashed after her husband did clean up the last mess that was left behind, and that was nothing compared to this clustefuck.
