Congratulate me. I got uninvited for Thanksgiving!

One of the 40yr olds in the extended family decided to call me out in the family group page in Facebook over ACA. I don't usually respond to that crap, but the little pissant got overly personal.... brought my late husband's cancer battle into it. Oh, I said my piece alright. Shoved some links to actual facts under his face and made it clear, believe whatever you want but don't dare tell me what I feel.

Thanksgiving is at the pissant's parent's house. That whole wing of the family pretty much just parrots whatever idiocy they see on Truth Social and OANN, or whatever shithole crap they all read now. His mother called me today and said her 40 yr old kid is a dumbass (agreed) - BUT ...... so now I'm free to do what I really wanted to do anyway.

I live in a senior village that has a "sister site" that supports low income seniors. Most have no family. Plus it's in a low income neighborhood with a lot of singles and single parent households. We invite all kinds, young and old to come join for Thanksgiving. The kids put on the pilgrim pageant. One guy shows up as a turkey and hands out gift bags to the kids. It's really a great party.

I've been told to bring my 5 bean baked beans....

But what I really want to comment on is... baked beans! I've always loved them, but my wife has allergy problems with beans so they've dropped off my radar screen. I WANT some, and dammit, I'm going to make a batch just for myself!

I live in a more Christian oriented place, which is really only about half church going types. But we tend to attract people that just aren't into... ahem ... "adult" pursuits and into charitable type things instead. We have some official groups but people group up all the time for things. Also, part of the mix living here is that friends are continuously ending up in a tough way or need a little help. You'll find those opportunities as you go along ....

and let us not forget the guys who gather up in front of the TV in the library to yell at the umps for bad calls against the Patriots.

20. My community is Masonicare and I alway associated Masons as a semi-religious group.

I base my belief in the fact that I have my father's Masonic Bible with all of its strange designs on page after page which have some explanation somewhere. I showed them my Bible and hoped it was just what was needed to get us in here. It does have a chapel and announces services. I think it is largely Protestant, altho Catholic and Jewish services are also announced on our TV. No pressure is applied, tho, and the folks I have met and dined with are well educated, nice people. The only difficult one was a lady who let it be known that she was a graduate of a Seven Sisters College. Since my daughter is a graduate of Mt. Holyoke it gave me great pleasure to announce that to her! My son is also a graduate of an Ivy League college so I laid that on her as well. It is not my habit to go around bragging about this stuff. It's idiotic.

The other folk here are not assholes.

will be going through the same drama over the holidays. My sister's side of the family is overpopulated with cacklin' righties who are true cult members. My sister is the lone liberal. Her husband, who was a regular Limbaugh listener back in the day and an initial Trump backer in 2016, went mute during Trump's first term after the cold political light of day began to break for him. Their children, who refused to get Covid vaccines and wear masks, have infected my sister and bro-in-law three times. Their last bout resulted in three days of intensive care for both of them. I will not visit when their family gathers. It is a sad situation.

The best T"ing I ever had was not the same, but a bit off beat. My ex, then GF, and I spent the long weekend helping friends build their chalet at Whistler. On "the day", my friend and I spent the day slowly building our way up the side of the building until we had a deck built, that accessed the second floor, but without stairs, as yet. It had been sleeting somewhat all day, and we came in freezing and soaked.

"Inside" was the home of the next-door neighbour who was incredibly gracious and generous. He let the gaggle of us sleep on foamies on the floor, shower, etc. My GF and I had the most enjoyable, almost hedonistic shower I've ever had, and when I had thawed out, we finally went upstairs to find 2 cars full of people had arrived, bringing what was basically 2 turkey dinners.

There was next to no furniture in the place, and lots of finishing work left to do on the place, so we took 2 bedroom doors off their hinges, put them on....I don't remember what...and we all sat on the floor around this huge makeshift table. I knew - at most - 13 of the people, but the feel of the room was incredibly close.

Never had a T'ing close to as good, before or since, and I would do that exact day again and again....except for the working in the sleet part. That was almost 50 years ago, and there is NO WAY this old body could do that part now.

I use extra onion, molasses, mustard. Garlic powder. Maybe a little bbq sauce and a dash of wishishishashire.... I have even added a little A1 to it. I don't measure things so I can't tell you. Any beans recipe will do. Mostly the draw is the visual of different beans. Black beans and lentils do not work.

I use dry beans but you could use cans. 1 big can baked beans, regular cans of beans drained .. just pick different colors add you extras like onion and brown sugar... bake it... voila

and their siblings no longer talk to them. One of them married a religious nut and the other one just grew up hateful.

Had I been forced into contact with them for some reason, I might send them Xmas cards once a year, signed with a rubber stamp (to save my sore hands) with the message "I told you so" and a happy face.
