'Humbly, I'm sorry': Marjorie Taylor Greene says she's turning a new leaf after years of divisive comments

‘Humbly, I’m sorry’: Marjorie Taylor Greene says she’s turning a new leaf after years of divisive comments

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Sunday she will stop using “toxic” rhetoric, marking what would be a dramatic shift in a political brand hallmarked by derogatory comments.

In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” on Sunday, Greene said she worried Trump’s rhetoric toward her could lead to violence against her.

When pressed by Bash on why she didn’t speak out against Trump using such rhetoric until it was directed at her, Greene conceded that it was “fair criticism.”

“I would like to say, humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics; it’s very bad for our country,” Greene said. “It’s been something I’ve thought about a lot, especially since Charlie Kirk was assassinated.”

Greene said she realized that she has participated in or supported heated rhetoric that has resulted in threats toward others, a point of reflection for her.

I'd divide the MAGA base into two parts, the RW religious/white supremicists and the economic populists/libertarians. MTG found a crack between the two and is aiming at the economic populist/libertarian wing of MAGA. The religiour rw and white supremicists will never abandon Trump, but, imho, they are the smaller part of the base.

Many Republicans on X talk about her running as VP - I don’t see Republicans ever wanting a woman president and no Republican talk of that on X.

So basically over on X - lots of polls & talk of her being VP to Massie - no Republican talk of her running for President.

She's dialing back the crazy and presenting herself as a serious political figure.

I think the republicans are figuring out Trump has gone too far, that with the economy tanking, Epstein, and the recent blue waves, they are in serious trouble. He's a lame duck. He's out after 2028. Easiest strategy will be to throw all the blame on him for his (many) mistakes and that means coming back to sanity and putting distance between yourself and him now.

I think they are trying to come up with more palatable tickets that independents would actually want to vote for.

Fuck that..

The way they attacked Dr Fauci was ..that was the worst thing about that hateful movement. They should stick with rehabilitating Maxwell, Holmes etc as a “complex” women .

That crowd really hates scientists and doctors. That lab leak stuff was such bullshit. These are people who assiduously pushed all those inane conspiracy theories.

Of all the things they did, the attacks on Dr Fauci were the most unconscionable. Making life hell for a decent public official in the middle of a pandemic.

The first was, "Did hell just freeze over and nobody told me about it?" Quickly followed by "Is this the Onion?"

Then I read the article, and all I can say is that while I absolutely do not believe she's suddenly a changed person, I do find it credible that combination of Charlie Kirk's death, followed by Trump's vicious attacks on her could have made an impression on her that has led her to view certain things in a slightly different way. Imo, that is a good thing, even if it doesn't last long. Time will tell how deep this actually goes, and I don't trust her any more than I would trust the snake in that story Schlump loves to tell about the woman getting bitten by a snake she rescued. Still, if she manages to soften her rhetoric even a little, even temporarily, I'll take it.

P.S. I agree that she owes personal apologies to a fuckton of people who will probably never receive them, as some have noted, and that sucks. But if she can manage to behave just a little bit better going forward, I'm willing to call it a net win for the side of sanity and civility. Just how much of a win will depend on how much better her behavior is and how long the improvement lasts.

79. She's full of it. The only reason she's changing is because it looks like a Dem sweep in the mid terms.

She'd likely lose her own seat whenever she's up again (isn't some former military guy running against her?).

Don't trust these people. they don't change. They like cheaters in a marriage, they can cry and say they're sorry, but they're only sorry they got caught, and they never change.

It's a big tent, drop on by. Never too late to change. Fair warning, though... we judge based on actions, not words.

But I doubt it.

And give all the money she grifted to charities helping the victims of Trump's ICE gestapo.

Short of that, she can go pound sand.
