https://share.newsbreak.com/fylp0i26"In a wide-ranging conversation on the Joe Rogan Experience, Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk offered a characteristically direct assessment of the United States fiscal trajectory. Known for speaking bluntly about technology, governance, and long-term societal risks, Musk framed the national debt not merely as a political challenge, but as a structural threat to the countrys economic future. His remarks reflect longstanding concerns he has raised about government inefficiency, declining industrial productivity, and the need for technological acceleration to maintain global competitiveness.
During the discussion, Musk argued that the only way to get us out of the debt crisis and prevent America from going bankrupt is AI and robotics, a conclusion he reached after observing what he described as unsustainable growth in federal obligations. He noted that interest payments on the national debt now exceed major federal expenditures, including the military budget a comparison he called a personal wake-up call.
According to Musk, traditional political tools are insufficient: You can make it directionally better, but ultimately you cant fully fix the system theres no way to solve the debt crisis without economic expansion at a scale only advanced automation could provide.:

(2,824 posts)Put the tax rate back to 91%.
ProfessorGAC
(76,693 posts)Besides when the rate was 91%, only a tiny percentage of people eligible for that tax rate actually paid 91%.
Make total compensation eligible to be taxed as regular wages, raise the dividend tax rate to 33% on money over $1 million, and add 39, 44, & 50% upper marginal rates on income. Again, total compensation to employment derived income of any form.
The 91% thing is typically misunderstood because how few people paid over 50% was is not discussed.

(11,171 posts)It should be so disadvantageous to possess more than $1,000,000,000.00 in NET assets that business owners and these current asshats would be falling all over themselves to avoid the taxes that kick in at that level. Further more, I would even support capital punishment for any billionaire caught cheating on their taxes. I would simply load them all onto Bezos' next dick shaped rocket and fire them into orbit without a return trip. Let them all off themselves in orbit.

(7,632 posts)With all your money, most comes from the US, you could help the American people survive the mess you and trump have created.
You could finance healthcare for those who count on Medicare, support SNAP, and other critical situations this country is in.Your trillions could do so much for other parts of the world.
Remember, you can't take it with you! Might as well do some good after the mess you have created.

(18,607 posts)'The Age of Self' - Robert Wyatt
They say the working class is dead, we're all consumers now
They say that we have moved ahead, we're all just people now
There's people doing 'frightfully well' there's others on the shelf
But never mind the second kind this is the age of self
They say we need new images to help our movement grow
They say that life is broader based as if we didn't know
While Martin J. and Robert M. play with printer's ink
The workers 'round the world still die for Rio Tinto Zinc
And it seems to me if we forget
Our roots and where we stand
The movement will disintegrate
Like castles built on sand

(3,703 posts)No, obviously the only way is to assfuck poor/middle class people by automating all their jobs out of existence, and cutting the government benefits that keep them alive, some of which they actively paid into their whole lives.
Naturally!

B. Tesla will be ideally positioned to supply those robots
That's it. There's nothing more to it.
The robots won't be ready. And they'll be FAR too expensive.
But they'll bump up the stock price and keep the money rolling into Elon's pockets.

(1,525 posts)Look at how far its come in the last 2 years. AI is now literally working to develop AI.
We are the horse and buggy laughing at the car at this point. The US cant fall behind because Asia is developing AI and robot technologies full press.
I watched a tattoo artist interview a year ago saying he can never be replaced. How many think the same? A huge portion of tattoos are now AI drawn and the technology easily exists to develop machines to do the tattoo. Cost just needs to catch up to profit.

(9,065 posts)Where are the people who lose their jobs going to get the money to live on, let along money for non-essential goods and services? This will cause a ripple effect through the remaining economy, resulting in millions more being put out of work.
And we know governments aren't going to provide for the general welfare in an economy where there isn't anyone left to tax.
One of the first things to go away will be free, open and honest elections. The rich won't allow it.
All this could come to pass in 20-30 years.
If you don't think so, just look how much has changed in the past decade, and we're in the infancy of this whole labor revolution. It's picking up speed quickly.

(20,354 posts)You actually need, ya know, living breathing CONSUMERS to buy the goods and services that the AI and robotics revolution will produce.
Robots and AI don't buy new homes, cars, clothes, phones, washing machines, groceries, etc.

There is a Waymo car wash/detail station I drive by occasionally. During the summer, 115+ days in the Phoenix sun you witness driver-less cars queue up and a team of people laboring in the sun detailing the exterior of the car.
Now I am seeing DoorDash robots being followed around by a person on a bicycle wearing traffic vests....very much putting themselves between the robot vehicle and traffic.
Humans at service to the robots.
It seems to me that the jobs that SHOULD be turned over to AI are the CEO, COO, CFO, and other executive level positions. AI should be assuming those jobs not production jobs. Think of the cost reductions...no more golden parachutes, no more BONUSES, no more self-serving decision making. THOSE are the jobs that need to be turned over to AI...starting with MUSK!!
