President Trump said he will not support legislation to extend expanded Affordable Care Act subsidies even as senators are preparing to tee up a vote on the issue, complicating his party’s efforts to address health care costs, Bloomberg reports.

Trump said on Truth Social the only health-care plan he would “SUPPORT OR APPROVE” would be “SENDING THE MONEY DIRECTLY BACK TO THE PEOPLE” instead of to insurance companies.

And it will involve "sending money back to people" so they can pay the insurance companies instead of the government paying the insurance companies. And since it won't be regulated the people can pay the insurance companies even more, and for worse coverage - just like the bad old days before the ACA.

7. Actually, I'm fine with sending money to people to buy an ACA policy. My guess is that it wouldn't actually go

directly to people, it would go to an "authorized" insurance company on behalf of ACA covered individuals. Not much different from what we have now.

Would be better to just scrap everything and cover everyone, but chances of that are close to nil nowadays.

Sending the money directly to each individual to buy an ACA policy would just add extra steps and make the process much less efficient.

13. That's pretty much what HSAs are, so nothing new.

The HSA is just a savings account you can use to pay medical and related expenses not covered by your health insurance, and it's not taxed when paid into the account. I had one as an employee benefit when I was working, and I deposited the maximum allowable amount every year. It lasted quite awhile after I retired. But it's not a substitute for health insurance. And if the plan is just to allow people to deduct medical expenses from their taxes, that won't do a damn thing for people who are already too poor to be paying federal tax.
