1. There is not a single file at a single location.

There are voluminous materials in both paper and electronic form, located at various agencies and under the control of various people. It's not like they just can stuff a big pile of paper into a shredder and it's gone. Once something has been been digitized it gets as many legs as a centipede, and it becomes easily copiable - and leakable. And it would be a federal crime to destroy or alter any of the materials, and if some low level employee is asked to do that, what would stop them from going to the media? One reason it would be easy to discover whether documents are missing is the Bates stamp. Most legal file document pages are given a number that's stamped on the page with an ink stamp that rolls to the next number for the next page. If there's a gap in the numbers (and a forged stamp would be easy to identify), that would show that a page is missing, either from the original document or from a scanned version. They might try some funny business, but discovering something is missing creates its own scandal. Remember Nixon's missing 18-1/2 minutes?

“That’s what they’ve been doing. And that’s the reason why they refuse to swear in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva, for weeks now,” Jeffries added, referring to the congresswoman who won a special election on September 23 to replace her late father, Representative Raúl Grijalva. “She was elected in late September decisively.”

Jeffries said that Grijalva hasn’t been sworn in by House Speaker Johnson because she would be the deciding vote on legislation requiring the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files.
