I just have a cynical feeling that Trump, Thune and Johnson have already conspired to have Trump not sign it for 10 days and then Congress will immediately adjourn, thereby killing it per pocket veto rules.
Metaphorical
(2,634 posts)A pocket veto only works if there's a successful move to adjourn, and I have a feeling that may not be as easily achieved as Thune or Johnson would like to believe (and it is likely to only add more fuel to the fire with regard to Trump's illegalities).

(3,768 posts)Now that the house and senate have sent this to TSF, anything he does to impede the FULL release will make him look guilty as hell. This is not going away even if they do try a "limited hangout".

(130,533 posts)if it isn't signed within ten days while Congress is in session it automatically becomes law. A pocket veto occurs when the president does not return the bill within ten days and Congress is no longer in session at that time, which would it mean it couldn't override the veto. "Not in session" doesn't mean a temporary recess; it means that Congress has adjourned from its regular session. Of course, the GOP leadership in both houses could move to adjourn, but that seems pretty unlikely, considering that the bill releasing the files was voted on unanimously.
The other thing that could happen is that Trump just doesn't sign it and lets it become law automatically in ten days so he doesn't have to suffer the humiliation of having to sign a bill that he can't veto successfully.
