NJ-03: Conaway (D) gets new Republican challenger

Jason Cullen, a sales professional from Manalapan, will run for New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district next year, making him the only Republican currently in the race against freshman Rep. Herb Conaway (D-Delran).

“I’m not a politician. I’m a husband, a father, and a churchgoing member of this community who works every day with small businesses trying to make ends meet,” Cullen said in his campaign announcement. “I’m running for Congress because I want my children to grow up in a prosperous and more free America, not one burdened by higher taxes, reckless spending, and leaders like Herbert Conaway Jr. who have forgotten the people they serve.”

Cullen, who declared himself an “America First outsider” and who was a supporter of Bill Spadea’s gubernatorial candidacy earlier this year, said he’d fight in Congress to curb waste and fraud, protect Second Amendment rights, end sanctuary cities, implement a flat 10% tax, and keep “woke ideology” and ”political agendas” out of the education system.

Cullen hasn’t held elected office before, but this is far from his first campaign. In 2022, he was a Libertarian candidate against Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) in the 4th congressional district, earning 0.7% of the vote. (Manalapan used to be in the 4th district, but was shifted into the 3rd prior to the 2022 election cycle.)
