CA-GOV: Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell joins race for California governor

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell announced Thursday he will enter the California gubernatorial race, joining a crowded field of candidates looking to succeed Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Swalwell, a longtime adversary of President Donald Trump, announced his run on his campaign website just before his appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“I came here tonight, Jimmy, to tell you and your audience that I am running to be the next governor of California,” Swalwell said.

“I will be California’s fighter and protector,” Swalwell said in a statement on his website. “Our state is under attack. The President has militarized our streets, canceled cancer research, zeroed out clean energy climate projects, and is chasing our immigrant friends and neighbors through their workplaces, kids’ schools, and houses of worship.”

I feel so blah about this primary. I dunno. Wish there were better options than what we're getting so far.

"You know me from shit-talking on Twitter" is what we're getting, and it's . . .

And all the B-tier have their own problems. So it's like, whatever.

It's not like Sacramento's going to materially change. Those PG&E dollars don't flow all by themselves.

Wish Kamala had run. Can certainly understand why she's not, but I'll gladly take another fierce fighter from the Bay Area, thanks! This is the first entry into our gov race that gets me actually enthusiastic.

I'm still really sad that Porter had to pull so many unforced errors that it made me unable to feel thrilled at the prospect of her run, because even though I think she'd probably be great, I actually worry she's damaged herself enough that it could hand the keys to the gov mansion to an R, and NOBODY needs that right now!
