if you watch the presser, the thing I noticed is Trump seems to actually like Mamdani. Or he is playing it diplomatically, which is totally out of character for him in dealing with (let's be real) mildly activist progressive politics.

Trump and Mamdani talked about Con Ed pricing. Like... that is significant for a lot of New Yorkers. And if Trump starts interceding on behalf of middle class people on energy costs, that is a win for our party. Trump can be led around like a beat mule, and again Mamdani models how.

The weakening started with Jimmy Kimmel, then the last election, ice events, tariffs, inflation and then the "piggy" comment.

A few months ago, he'd have tried bullying Mamdani. Now, he's too weak.

But Mamdani as NYC mayor is a different tier of political strength. Trump is almost genuflecting and he retains the full force of the Federal government. That he feels this weak in front of Mamdani -- even after the democrats in the House pass a stoopid resolution condemning socialism -- who is a socialist, is very telling.

Mamdani, who is a bit younger than I am, is going to have the energy to drive the agenda. He can't be President, but he an excellent messenger. And apparently also a decent diplomat to the crazy right.
