It rewards aggression. This is pure and simple. Theres no ethical, legal, moral, political justification for Russia claiming eastern Ukraine, Independent Maine Sen. Angus King said during a panel discussion at the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada.
*****
But King and Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen later said they and their fellow senators at the forum spoke with Rubio. King said Rubio told them the plan was not the administrations plan but a wish list of the Russians.
Shaheen said Rubio is on his way to Geneva for talks with the Europeans and Ukrainians. She said Rubio reached out to her and Republican Sen. Mike Rounds from South Dakota.
This is a Russian proposal, Shaheen said. There is so much in that plan that is totally unacceptable.

Now Rubio says this:

@marcorubio
The peace proposal was authored by the U.S.
It is offered as a strong framework for ongoing negotiations
It is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine.

Ending a complex and deadly war such as the one in Ukraine requires an extensive exchange of serious and realistic ideas. And achieving a durable peace will require both sides to agree to difficult but necessary concessions. That is why we are and will continue to develop a list of potential ideas for ending this war based on input from both sides of this conflict.
Much confusion abounds, along with the sense that for some reason, somebody's lying.
And now a new twist in the fog of war Dmitriev's stirred up:
@michaeldweiss
No journalist Ive spoken to in the last three days believes this. Everyone agrees Dmitriev leaked it. But that Dmitriev is eager to pretend otherwise is very interesting.

Facts:
1. Ukraine leaked the US peace plan through deputy Honcharenko👇
2. A U.S. official confirmed to WSJ that in this leaked plan one point was changed from an audit of all international aid to the full amnesty
3. Russia did not leak the plan or its existence / details

(15,396 posts)It's obvious American Media Owners run in the same circles - have been since the late '90's, in fact .. and push narratives that benefit them and their business/dinner partners.
Been pretty obvious since 2000. Repubs could do little wrong, even when they were caught with a smoking gun and their hand in the till - and Dems could do no right, and if they fought back, they were called irrational or dangerous, u American radicals.
