(78,382 posts)a stretch to think any discussion of Dylan or Maher "helps to advance the Democratic agenda."

(37,036 posts)He's really a dead Dead, and thus he probably will not mind.
I don't know if there's anything to have a quirky obsession about him, but we're creative at DU.

Chiding is more of an eyebrow-driven venture. Eyebrows in motion are an early indication that rolling is imminent.
My eyebrow game is, like, half my personality. Emilia Clarke is an inspiration.

(75,498 posts)...that he votes for democrats.
The fact that he never joined the Democratic Party doesn't mean he doesn't support the positions.
I'm another one. I was an industry advisor on Deb Halvorson's election & reelection campaigns but I've never been a party member.
We know for sure he donated a few million to get dems elected in 2008, 2012, 2016 & 2018.
That article might not mean what you seem to think it does.

(4,089 posts)Politics as a whole is dependent on headlines, photo ops, and entertainment value. George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump all became famous for scandals, mistakes,, crimes, and advertising.
And, there's always been "Gotchya politics' sometimes true, sometimes rumors, sometimes made up.
Not to mention the endless obssesions with CTs with every incident and word to snag the rubes.

(21,724 posts)Bill Maher, on the other hand, is just an asshole, and I dont think there is much debate that we should expect him to be anything but an asshole, one who had dinner with Trump which convinced him to go easy on him.

(51,660 posts)I gave Maher the benefit of the doubt for quite some time until I finally realized, he is just a self-absorbed jerk and cannot be trusted by sane reasonable people. I had watched him since his Politically Incorrect days and though he could be a bit of an asshole at times, he was often the voice of reason.
During the pandemic he started to change and has only gotten worse over time. There's something just not quite right about the guy. I am amazed he still has a show on HBO.

(31,091 posts)that we wish to discuss. For example: Bill Maher is a perfect example of a white man who sells himself as a friend to progressivism, but feels its within his purview to determine when its okay to not merely dismiss, but to ridicule and make jokes about the abuse of women for money. Progressivism already has a problem with this among its faction of white males as do all groups with any substantial number of white males among their number. Maher also has a similar ongoing behavior with various minorities and Muslims. He is a convenient conduit for discussions about bigotry within progressivism.

(173,535 posts)My issues with Maher started when he helped to elect W by supporting Nader. Maher ceased to be funny a very long time ago. I did not follow any of the threads about Dylan and so I am not sure what the issues were.
Again, Maher ceased to be funny a very long time ago.

(37,993 posts)DU has hated Maher for years. Decades. He is the New York Times of comedians.
He says things that are Conservative while still being mostly an "Old Fashioned Liberal". He platforms objectionable people.
IDK what DU thinks is wrong with Bob Dylan, though. He really let us down when he abandoned Folk Music?
