resolution until January, instead of holding out as some wished until the republicans extended the enhanced ACA subsidies.

From all evidence it is obvious that the congressional republicans were never going to vote to extend those enhanced subsidies in order to offset the higher insurance premiums.

The point of the shut down was to focus on those subsidies, and that the republicans were not interested in extending those enhanced subsidies, and that insurance premiums under the ACA would increase significantly because of it.

Hadn't that point been made?

Continuing the shutdown would have definitely impacted those government workers who depended on a paycheck. It would have also impacted Thanksgiving travel, those on food stamps, etc.

While most of the polls indicated that most Americans sided with the Democratic position on the enhanced subsidies, Medicaid benefits, etc., it seems that extending the shutdown would have served no purpose since there was no way this republican party was going to allow those enhanced subsidies to happen, because that is exactly what they are doing now, especially with their leadership in the House.

In other words, unless something changes, which is doubtful, people on the ACA are going to see significant increases in their insurance premiums, which will be unaffordable for many, and continuing to keep the government shutdown would not have resolved that, because the sad fact is that the republicans control both houses of congress.

Exception is Fetterman, who needs to go for other reasons, but he is not up for re-election for awhile. Perhaps he could step down for health reasons if it looks like a strong blue wave next year. 5. I'm not frustrated that the ACA subsidies were not saved; we don't have the votes.

However, I am frustrated that the messaging and strategy about the shutdown left the impression with low information voters that Dems are weak and feckless and engaged in a pointless shutdown. Like it or not, we need low information voters to show up and vote for Dems (for whatever reasons move them) if we are going to have even a chance of putting a pause on the damage Repugs are inflicting upon our country/society, never mind rolling back that damage and rebuilding.

If Dems want to win, they cannot behave like the entire electorate is made up of wonky politicos who follow and understand everything that happens in DC. We have to meet people where they are and influence them from there. Sorry if it makes people butthurt to hear, but the Dems' shutdown performance did not do that. We need to do better.

8. One of my senators (Kaine) voted to end the shutdown

I was initially mad at him, but he explained very clearly why he did it---It was because too many Virginians were losing their jobs on accounbt of it. And I understand that. I'm still unhappy about it, but I get it. A larger part of his constituency are federal/state workers in and around DC. And Tim thinks about people first.
