[Verse 1]
Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understand
I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can

[Chorus]
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long?

How could he of had a son that was 51? Sad that his son is gone, I couldn't imagine.

The Only Child.
His son was two years old at the time, and his mother had just committed suicide.
That song sticks with me, especially the chorus. "Take good care of your mother", which changes to "Take good care of each other" at the end.
