One of the basic principles of American doctrine: "We must all hang together or we will all hang separately"

There just wasn't enough time to make a switch and give everyone a chance to smooth down their feathers and come together. And I would think that learned men would have figured that out.

Jesus. Biden had one bad debate and they were ready to push him out. The worst thing that would have happened if he had become president, is that he would have stepped down and Kamala Harris would have become president.

Why couldn't they just have stayed out of it.

Everyone knew what a Trump presidency looked like and yet so many undercut the Democratic candidate who had already had a successful presidency. What did they think was going to happen?

I agree, the worst thing that would have happened was Biden might have had to step down (or die in office) and we would have had Kamala Harris as president, meaning we would have gotten more of their very successful policies.

I'm beginning to wonder if most people actually WANT strong, competent leadership and a thriving economy, because when things are going well, they look for things to complain about, always ready to switch horses. Memories are so short; in four short years so many forgot the nightmare of Trump.

I have no love for Tapper.

Clooney should just be an actor and not a spokesperson for liberals. Don't much care for him.

I am generally ambivalent about Stewart. I don't find him funny.

Funny, how you don't take a shot at Pelosi.

I've called Biden the best president of my lifetime. But, even I wanted Biden out after the disastrous debate. So, take a shot at me.

for Trump and cabal to go after Biden once Trump settled in. Between attacks on his age and capabilities, and Trump using the asinine auto pen issue to threaten to "cancel" Biden's executive orders, Tapper, Clooney et al outdid themselves.

Pretend that he didn't have a disaster of a debate. Pretend he was losing in a landslide in polling.

It's easy to blame a handful of celebrities. But that's not an accurate portrait of where the race was and how Biden was perceived even before the debate.

Look at how Republicans won't take a stand against Trump's decline. Biden wasn't in a position to be president again. I know how hard that transition can be. My grandfather was adamant that he could keep driving even though he parked by bumping other cars. When we finally convinced him to give up running his local area's Meals on Wheels, we found a bunch of undeposited checks. We finally had to say to him that he just wasn't able and that really sucks.

But you're dismissing that the public already had major concerns about Biden's age before the debate. Almost 80% of voters thought Biden was too old in January 2024.

We don't vote nationally, so national polls are a loose metric that don't give a good picture of the race. Here's a link to the state polls when Biden dropped out. Trump was leading in all of the swing states. Which as cited below matches up with Trump winning in a runaway landslide. We went from tied in Virginia with Biden to Harris winning by 5.

https://www.270towin.com/2024-biden-trump-polls

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4981792-pod-save-america-bidens-internal-polling-showed-trump-winning-400-electoral-votes/

Then we find out when the Biden campaign becomes the Harris campaign, that the Biden campaign’s own internal polling at the time when they were telling us he was the strongest candidate, showed that Donald Trump was going to win 400 electoral votes.

Sorry, but after that debate, there was no path for Biden to win. He never should have run again, and we definitely shouldn't still be trying to blame everyone else for things. Partially because it's a waste of time, partially because it prevents us from taking our own agency as a party. Biden didn't drop out because George Clooney wrote an oped or Jake Tapper wrote a book. Giving that much power to a random celebrity is just a weird take.

She was forced into a nearly impossible political situation and nearly pulled it off. We are after all, an extremely polarized "almost" 50:50 Nation. She proved to be an incredibly energetic and hard working candidate who is likable and extremely smart. Her debate performance against Trump was the opposite of Biden's collapse. She soared and Trump crumbled and ended up talking about Haitians eating the pets. I want to see Kamala 2.0 run in the primaries in '28. She knows a thing or two and she might win.

Young people were bashed for not showing up in as large numbers for the 2010 midterm compared to the 2008 general election for Obama. Even Bill Maher said at the time that they should give illegal immigrants the right to vote because they would do that job Americans won't do. He also continues to bash young people still to this day.

I remember one Gen Z poster here that complains about the youth bashing here and in fact there isn't as many young people as there was here since the youth bashing ever since the election of Obama. There may have been youth bashing before that but I signed up here in 2008. I'm more willing to tolerate it but not so much others.

Young people don't hate old politicians because their old but mostly due to the politics which is why Bernie Sanders isn't criticized for a lot of the things that Republican and center-left politicians do.

plenty enough blame to go around. Generally speaking, Biden could have done with a little more 'loyalty' (to coin a term) and a little less brow beating, navel gazing' (to coin another's term), and naysaying (over 'his economy' for example).

Not that I see much benefit in rehashing it all, except perhaps, as a lesson for those who have yet to learn anything from it.

The incumbency may be valuable, but it isn't the most important value.

Don't bully potential challengers within the party to pipe down for the sole sake of clinging to the incumbency.

It isn't healthy for the party or the country.

That "strategy," such as it was, gave us who we now have.
