'Nice try': Melania Trump buried after gushing reveal of White House Christmas decor

By Nicole Charky-Chami
Published December 1, 2025 11:58 AM ET

The White House Monday revealed its holiday decor, debuting a lego-designed portrait of President Donald Trump and the nation's first president, George Washington — garnering plenty of criticism of the first lady and the administration.

Social media users had a range of responses to the new images of the designs, which were selected by First Lady Melania Trump and released in a new video posted on the White House's social media accounts.

"Home Is Where the Heart Is — AMERICA’S CHRISTMAS," wrote the first lady.

I just have to ask if she is selling the picture to make up for the loss on her crypto failure..........

Is the message “Here’s our first president and here’s the president who is ruining everything the other guy stood for”?

Because that’s the message that I’m getting.

George III allegedly called Washington “the greatest man in the world”. Contemporary potentates call Donnie “the easiest mark in the world”.

Or, they quit at the end of his the previous mess. She doesn't even live in the White House now, so I doubt there's any staff this time around to do that kind of stuff for her.

It looks like somebody slapped up a few things just to make it look like they are actually doing something for the holidays. More performative crap.

At least they're not blood red this year.

Second, even if you did, you don't have Washington looking one way and dump looking down at the floor.

Really bad layout.

The direction Washington is looking requires that his portrait be on the right. Never have a composition with the subjects looking away from the center. TSF's would work on the left because he is looking forward to center from there.

In summary, the two portraits should be reversed positions.

She was a top-level architect who designed in 5 gazillion languages, not a mere interior decorator. Besides, Donnie tore down the wing with her office in it, so she had to work from a table in some Starbucks or share a desk with Leavitt or something.

I like the colors, but then I'm partial to green. I think it would be OK in some private home, since it's being displayed in a smaller room, but yeah, the portraits are awkward. George looks as if he's searching for a way out, Donnie just looks petulant.

that I was making. It's a principle used in publishing photos....Don't have the subjects looking off the page....

And it still irks me to see portraits of someone looking off the page.

But then what should we expect from whoever threw together that mess.

But Melonie has been looking happier lately - is it because she has hopes for his deteriorating conditions? Or have the past renegotiations of the pre-nups been extra good?

Still it is rather odd. She even has "Be Best" ornaments. I would have thought she'd have buried that one by now.

I'm not sure what to make of the presidential portraits.

Note they turned off the comments on the video.
