Mike Johnson's red alert on members quitting Congress

Members of the House of Representatives are quitting Congress at a record rate, with Republican retirements and resignations outpacing Democrats by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio in the first 11 months of the year.

Why it matters: In previous cycles, the party with more departures tends to lose seats — if not the majority.

Call it the congressional JOLTS rate. Like its BLS counterpart, a high reading for one party doesn't predict a House flip any more than a bad JOLTS number calls a recession.

But it's not a great sign for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who needs to worry that early GOP retirements could strip him of his gavel this year.

MAGA has peaked. Its decline is not gradual. It is abrupt.

That's what happens when you grab the wheel with both hands and steer the car into the right wing ditch.

Of '26 sure looks a lot brighter than '25s did, lots of maga are beginning to realize there's no future in maga, besides having to defend lame duck liar Donnie from various issues and answer for their support of him ,the most painful thorn in the side being , he's in the Epstein Files which is why many are silently unhitching their wagons now , if the Democrat wins the special election in Tennessee tomorrow, Mike Johnson's job and house will crumble quickly

MAGA isn’t going anywhere.

Before MAGA it was the ‘tea party’; what we now call MAGA has been around for more than 50 years dating back to the Southern Strategy and the rise of the Christo-fascist right.

The fear, ignorance, racism, bigotry, misogyny, and hate of the authoritarian GOP is just as strong and just as powerful as it ever was – it will remain a threat well into the future.

The capricious stupidity and willful ignorance of the voters, in a democracy that’s irreparably broken, and a political process hopelessly corrupted by Republicans, will continue to return the fascist right to power.

Democrats are guaranteed of winning the Special Election in Texas in January (both candidates are Ds in a runoff). MTG is resigning at the beginning of January, making it 218 to 214 (until a Special election fills her seat). Dems should easily win the special election for Mikie Sherrill's set in NJ (which she just resigned to take over as Governor) which is scheduled for April. That would put the margin at 218 to 215. If they could pull off the Tennessee upset, that could reduce the margin to 2 (218 - 216) by April.

Has anyone besides MTG announced an early resignation rather than just choosing not to run for reelection?
