In a way, I don't give a shit.
He committed a war crime. To call him a scapegoat is to give him some sympathy. He deserves no such thing.
I do, however, care about his scapegoating because it casts in a harsh, bright light the horrible leadership that does that to a subordinate. Whiskey Pete gave the criminal order.
In my view, they can both resign and walk out the door. I wish them prosecution.

(128,605 posts)Doesn't the guy in charge also have an obligation to see to it that a subordinate doesn't do something illegal? Not that Bradley is off the hook, but Kegbreath sure as hell ought to be on that hook with him.

(53,966 posts)He should seek legal representation.
He should prepare to thoroughly testify in front of The House Armed Services Committee, which is seeking a full accounting of the U.S. military attack on an alleged drug-trafficking boat, esp. the second bombing.

(3 posts)He is just another ass kissing sycophant. Any first class seaman knows the law of the sea is to rescue victims of a ship wreck. As young USMC officer candidates even before we were allowed to be called Marine we were taught about unlawful orders. Yes an Admiral of Bradley's caliber MOST CERTAINLY KNEW THE ORDER HE GAVE TO MURDER THE TWO SURVIVORS WAS UNLAWFUL. He threw himself under the bus, and he should be grabbing Whiskey Pete and the Orange Jesus with him. Of course there will be a hearing where the ^$&%&*%&(*&^(**&GOP pieces of shit will thank him for being a great patriot and blow enough smoke up his ass to fill a dozen brigs. And the Dems will be gaslit and snowed under with every question they ask. After the usual 2 week news cycle is over this event will be buried in the hole that used to be the East Wing. Oral Roberts and the rest of SCROTUM gave this putrid gutless draft dodging insane idiot the keys to the kingdom with the get out of jail card. So you can't blame him for using it.
Well signing off for now |-| O3

(39,812 posts)Lieutenant William Calley emerged as the most prominent figure in the subsequent court-martial, facing charges for premeditated murder of over a hundred civilians during the Vietnam War and was accountable for war crimes. Calley was found guilty in March 1971 and initially sentenced to life imprisonment, but his punishment was significantly reduced, leading to his release on parole after serving just a fraction of his sentence.
