As it turns out, the Democratic leadership's current, inspirational slogan "Bridge the Floor to Adopt the Ceiling!" (or whatever it actually is . . . ) is transparently horrendously bad, and that fact is easily seen by our 'erstwhile' allies, who perhaps possess keener insight into our chances in the next election cycles given our current leadership than that current leadership seems to possess. Ironically, the slogan is almost as strong as the large zero circling the capital D that is the party symbol. Talk about foreshadowing zero political power. Perhaps, it is lucky that the current slogan was not chosen to be "No floor, hard ceiling!".
One other concern that the video brings up is the detrimental effect of wild gesturing while speaking in public and how that might influence an election (think of the Dean scream as a similar case). The example that the video's author uses is a video of Gavin Newsom speaking and how his wild gesturing could easily be used against him in a campaign. (If that sounds ridiculous, watch him speak with no sound and imagine the possibilities of weaponizing that to sway the independents. Keep in mind how many believed and voted for the "clown" Trump.)
Hopefully, this video's author's prediction will not happen, but actually winning in the next election cycles will require some more reflection at the level of the Democratic leadership and some thoughtful work by them, not merely the maintenance of the status quo.

(13,493 posts)This floor ceiling thing smacks of Schumer, it is horrible and reminds me of the glass ceiling thing in 2016, and that shit the bed too.

And you have a few people here who steadfastly look at fraudulent and anomalous voting patterns, election after election, and deny they are manipulating the elections. That's what you have. Here.

(753 posts)offering up even more opportunities to disparage Democrats, insult intelligence, make ageist remarks, split hairs, hyper-analyze, second-guess, BMW-ing, and to use all the anti-Dem buzz-words to beckon virtue-signaling Democrat-haters from miles away. Of course, messages like this are designed to create FUD and to suppress the vote by making Democrats believe that "it's all over" and "a lost cause" and "why fucking bother?" The "woe are we" message is a real winner, eh? A vote-getter, eh? Fuck this "Canadian perspective" BS.
Strange thing... Bernie Sanders likes to "gesture" too... funny how we NEVER hear this youtube pundit (or others with similar views) complain about that. Yet... when it's someone like Newsom who "gestures" it's an entirely different story and reaction. "Oh dear God, the world is ending, and it will be used by the right to ridicule him." (Apparently it's not ONLY the right who's trying to kneecap and "ridicule" him.)

Or if you prefer, just stay in the fantasy world and enjoy the third term that comes with it.

(28,600 posts)and standing up to, etc. Democrats are supposedly spineless milquetoasts with only just enough energy to throw in towels before caving -- now they have the energy for wild gesturing?

(1,089 posts)Watch him in an interview when he explains something. He does an artificial gesture with wrists together but hands & fingers pointing out. It is very noticeable because he does it so much. It's equivalent to Trump's "accordion" that is much ridiculed, and it will no doubt be used against him. He would be well advised to lose it.

(12,346 posts)The slogan/meme/whatever is really clunky, completely uninspiring. Dem leadership might want to tap Mayor-elect Mamdani on messaging.
Just saying.
QueerDuck
(753 posts)of that I'm positive.

(12,346 posts)That was a huge mistake and did not reflect what the public actually wanted--reform, improve, toss out those clearly not suited for the job.
But we must do better than what's been suggested. Mamdani grabbed Affordability like a spear after listening to people all over the city. Simple, clear, pointed and something voters desperately wanted and needed in a city like NYC.
Anything clunky that makes voters scratch their heads should be booted.

(14 posts)If too many people refuse to stand with the Democrats against literal fascists who want to kill them - over litmus tests about minor policy disagreements - the of course the fascists will win.
The fascists cultivate such divisions.
