Extending the ACA?

I admit I was lucky enough to not need the ACA and did not follow all the news. Only that a former co worker benefitted that she could quit a dead end job not being tied to the generous benefits.

But now, if I understand it correctly the Rs are preventing its extension.

Why was it crafted in a way that it needs extension? How often?

What am I missing?

put in place by Congress. The increase had like a 1.5 year sunset period, but under Biden it was extended another 2.5 years (iirc) and that 2.5 years ends at the end of 2025. So it's not "the ACA" it's the enhanced subsidies that were at issue during the shutdown and ongoing.
