BOO HOO: “You work your butt off & you end up with next to nothing (but about $2 million this year)”

Mr. President, Have Pity On The Working Man
By: TBogg Thursday December 27, 2012 10:25 pm

Courtesy of the NY Post, here is one of the people John Boehner and the Republicans are protecting from the onerous confiscatory upper end tax increase from 35 percent to 39.6 percent:

They’re ready to jump off a real cliff.

New Yorkers of all income levels got a rude awakening yesterday when they saw in The Post how much more they will pay in taxes next year without a fiscal-cliff deal by Jan. 1.

[...]

Clothing designer Peter Opie, of Canary Wharf Clothier, made about $2 million this year — and would see his tax bill spike by a staggering $100,000.

“The system is nuts here — it’s madness personified!” he said

“We were impacted massively by the hurricane — and now there is this,” said Opie. “You work your butt off and you end up with next to nothing.”

Oh look, here are some kids who worked in coal mines for $3 a week!

I’m sorry. What was Peter Opie saying about “working your butt off”?

He was making between $45K and $50K/year literally did not want to make more money because the dollars he would pay in taxes would be higher. Not necessarily the percentage but the actual dollars.

I could never get through to him that was a good thing because it would mean he had more in his pocket! They are always looking at the dark side and never seeing the bright side.

I wish I had to pay $100K in taxes, that would mean I was making a hell of a lot of money and wouldn't have to worry what they do with my job next month.

the concept of marginal rates. Most of them pay a miniscule percentage of their overall income in Federal Income Tax, but you won't ever see them go calculate it because they want to believe their taxes are excessive.

One of my husband's co-workers (super-conservative Republican) is on every government program imaginable. She actually carries around a black binder to keep track of them all, and spends loads of company time filling out forms and looking online for more programs she can get on. Single mom, won't marry her live-in boy-friend (also a big Rep) because then she won't be eligible for some of the programs. A couple of years ago she turned down a raise for the same reason.

The kicker is she's always complaining about "all those government freeloaders." But *she's* not a freeloader because . . . white, I guess. Hubby tries to tell her that the Republicans want to cut those programs, but she insists he's wrong. "They wouldn't cut anything that helps ME. They only cut the ones for the freeloaders."

it came from a member of the Middle Tennessee Labor Council, so it's possible it's true. He said a HOMELESS woman told him she voted Republican because Obama was going to raise her taxes!!!! Homeless and a Republican. I was aghast.

Claiming they don't want to try for a promotion or work more hours because it would mean more taxes. Coincidentally, it would also require more . . . yunno . . . actual work.

Ends up being around 20401.244 dollars depending on how you do the math. Note, that this is the increase if you make around 388k a year. The tiers actually shift around fairly substantially. Also I was using the 2003 figures compared to 2000, so my numbers might be off. But should be close.

It really sickens me how rich people think they earned all their money by working extra hard, implying the rest of us must not be working hard enough.

It's highly offensive, actually.

I then wonder if these douche bags are just too stupid to know what they are saying... are they jaded, assholes, or just a combination of all those things.
