Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker signs law shielding immigrants from arrest near courthouses, hospitals or colleges.

ICE's "Operation Midway Blitz" arrested more than 4,000 people; data showed about 15% had criminal records, mostly misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies.

BUT, Governor Pritzker needs to do all he can even if it won't work.

If an immigrant and a US citizen both commit a violent crime at a college, only the citizen can be prosecuted?

No federal law enforcement needed since normal police can handle everything. Redundant, just like the Dept of Education, right? Shift it all to the states.

If they miscategorized what it actually says, the reporter should perhaps find a new line of work.

It codifies different enforcement criteria based on immigration status. According to this new law, a citizen can be arrested at a college campus for violations of federal law, while an immigrant can't. I don't believe that would be constitutional. That is even assuming that a state law can usurp a Federal law, which it can't.

IMO, it should have stated that no federal laws are enforceable, period, and not carve out an exemption for different classes of people. As is it appears to be discriminatory.

The article is either link bait or a sloppy job. It makes it seems that as if the law prohibits anything federal.
The law actually only prohibits civil arrests well explicitly saying that it doesn’t apply to crimes . and not just against people who are not US citizens or exclusively against immigrants .
