The more Donald Trump and his party pretend they dont have an electoral problem, the more Republicans lose winnable elections.
Republicans keep saying they donât have a political problem. They also keep losing elections.

Miamiâs mayoral race was big, but Dems flipping a state House seat in Georgia was just as notable. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

It didnt work. The Miami Herald reported:
Democrat Eileen Higgins has defeated Trump-backed opponent Emilio González in Tuesday nights runoff for Miami mayor, with the former Miami-Dade commissioner edging out the former city manager with nearly 60% of the vote, according to preliminary election night results.
A raucous crowd danced to Stevie Wonders Signed, Sealed, Delivered as Higgins stood alongside family and supporters onstage at the Miami Womans Club, a symbolic location as Higgins becomes Miamis first female mayor.
The race wasnt especially close: Despite Trumps intervention on Gonzálezs behalf, Higgins appears to have won by roughly 18 points.....
And in case that werent quite enough to get GOP officials attention, on the same day, Democrat Eric Gisler flipped a state House seat in Georgia, scoring an unexpected upset in a district Trump won last year by 12 points.
The results come on the heels of last weeks congressional special election in Tennessee, where Democrats overperformed in a district Trump won by 22 points.
They also come a month after Democrats dominated in the 2025 elections, following a year in which Democrats have consistently overperformed in ways that should make Republicans quite nervous ahead of the 2026 midterm election cycle.

(60,189 posts)He used to carry the unwanted designation as the most vulnerable Democratic senator. He narrowly won on just about the most propitious (special) election day he could have to run for Senate in Georgia as a Democrat. Biden had just won the White House, and Jons opponent was singularly uninspiring. The election was held on Jan. 5th, 2021, and his JFK-style good looks and super-high IQ didnt hurt. He never lost those, and the Democratic brand no longer carries a stigma in all of Georgia. In a year when I can ill afford to contribute to anything not tax-deductible, I have again contributed the legal limit to Jons campaignnot just as a friend, but because I think he can really make it. If he gets replaced by some Trumpanzee, the average intelligence of the US Senate will drop a few points (Tuberville leaving wont help raise it, since some other George-of-the-Jungle clone will probably take his place).
