General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIn my local Ohio newspaper there were 14 letters to the editor.
4 were about local issues, 2 were praising the Taxer In Chief, 3 were slamming him for for Venezuela and immigration policies, and 5 (five) were expressing outrage over his economy, naming him specifically.
Just in case he thinks a rally with a banner that reads "Lower Prices / Higher Wages" and Fox News working overtime would convince voters that he has made life better for them before the midterm elections..... I have a story about a king's wardrobe choice I'd like him to read, and this is a red area that voted 59% / 41% to put him into office. The mid-terms loom large.

(96 posts)but a part of me hopes a new (good) healthcare bill doesnt pass right away. I know it will punish lower income Democrats who will have to pay much more for healthcare. But we need to see lower income trump supporters actually have to write those checks. Right now the higher premiums are theory. Come Jan 1st and beyond they become reality.

I saw in the PD the other day that polls show Dr. Amy Acton is neck-and-neck with Ramaswamy.

I looked at a post of fb and there were 25 people at the democratic headquarters for a meet up.
Sad~~~ but political leaders have soured people here.

(17,236 posts)But I left in the mass migration of white collar professionals in the early 80's, and it sickens me to see what's happened to Ohio since then. They were always known for their many outstanding colleges and universities, their major hospitals and came in first in libraries. Reagan and the GOP gutted the unions and the middle class people who made good livings from being in them. Their orchestra was world renowned and Ohio gave this country eight presidents. Such a shame what it's become.

(68,819 posts)While we often had lousy Republican governors, when I was growing up Ohio had two liberal Democratic senators, Glenn and Metzenbaum. Ohio was known as the purple state whose votes for president usually predicted the outcome.
A state whose economy was built by immigrants, farmers, small business owners. I thought of Ohioans as practical clearheaded people.
While the state's history includes the genocide and complete eradication of Native peoples, it was also on the frontline of the Underground Railroad.
Ever since Fox News and hate radio took hold in the 1980s the majority of Ohio voters have been fooled and urged to drink deep of racism, resentment, and fear.
It breaks my heart. And don't even get me started on West Virginia, which used to be a rock solid Democratic state.

(21,393 posts)you are spot on with the educational systems and wealth of museums, libraries, the pro sports and the diverse music scene; Cleveland Orchestra to the Agora theatre, Blossom Music Center and the incredible rock scene. Northeast Ohio is near and dear to me. And the ethnic/ racial diversity was inspiring.

(21,393 posts)I moved to Chicago in 92. I saw what was happening and knew it was time to go. Now it's a mess there. Not as bad as some places, it still might be salvageable, but it'll take some attitude and voting changes.

(13,665 posts)to be pro Republican right now. That's the bottom line.
Soon as Republicans are doing good they are right back covering how great their party is. I have no respect for our newspaper as they have totally ruined good democrats such as Tim Ryan, Amy Acton, and Sherrod Brown.

(12,381 posts)He said, in so many more stupid words, that Americans will just have to get use to living on less. As if his $300 million ballroom is less. And his many, many golf outings are less. And his marble and gold renovation to a once historical White House are less. As if his useless trips overseas are less.
In his Alzheimers addled mind he told us to make do without. He said we should live without certain things we use to buy. He expects us not to buy so many dolls for our children and to not buy so many pencils for our children to use in their school work. Yeah, that's what's costing Americans so much...dolls and pencils.

(81 posts)This is how it always is with the Republicans. Always.
The self-hating, self-flagellating illiberal, dystopian right-wing thinks we all should live lives of doom and gloom while serving them.

(3,568 posts)This whole thing is a cult of personality. I think it will collapse pretty quickly once Twinklesphincter is gone; there's on obvious heir apparent, and the recent elections have shown that our democracy isn't entirely too far gone to correct for the inevitable scrum amongst Republicans.

(1,037 posts)After 10 long years of delusion.
They liked his economy in the first term because it was OBAMA'S economy.
They also like Obamacare.
They are starting to realize as Brian Tyler Cohen has said for years, the people Trump despises the most, are his own supporters.
He thinks that they are so stupid he can say any lie and they will believe it.
He's been 99% right for 10 years...now they are finally waking up (some of them).

Let's face it Trump is losing popularity and they still got to sell newspapers.
