This ICE system will not change--unless Trump orders it--and we know he will NOT do that!!
🚨ICE WITHHELD MEDICAL CARE FROM A DIABETIC MAN. HE DIED. THEN THEY MARKED HIM AS RELEASED.
This is what happens when the government decides all immigrants are criminals.
Nenko Gantchev was 56 years old. He lived in Chicago for 30 years. He entered the U.S. legally on a student visa, had a work permit, paid taxes, owned a trucking company, and was married to a U.S. citizen. He was in the middle of his green card application through that marriage when ICE arrested him.
Not for a crime.
Not because he was dangerous.
But because he showed up to a USCIS interview.
From the moment ICE took him, Nenko was treated like a criminal
not a husband, not a business owner, not a man who followed the legal process for decades.
A federal judge ordered Nenko released on bond, along with hundreds of others, after finding these arrests were likely unlawful. ICE itself classified him as low risk to public safety.
He remained detained as the government fought that release order in court.
Nenko was diabetic. While held in a private ICE detention facility in Michigan, his health deteriorated. His family says he was denied proper medical care and a medically appropriate diet. He repeatedly told them he wasnt feeling well. They sent commissary money just so he could eat food that wouldnt spike his blood sugar.
They hoped he would be released because of his medical condition.
Instead, ICE kept him in custody.
On December 16, on the day of their 8 year wedding anniversary, his wife didnt receive his usual phone call. When she searched the ICE detainee locator, it said Nenko had been released.
The next morning, she learned the truth.
Nenko Gantchev had died in ICE custody.
ICE now claims his death was from natural causes, while providing no meaningful explanation to his wife. Other detainees report he asked for medical help and did not receive it in time.
This is not an isolated incident.
This year alone, nearly 30 people have died in ICE custody, making 2025 the deadliest year on record. Every time, officials insist its a tragedy
not the predictable outcome of a system that dehumanizes immigrants by default.
Nenko wasnt a criminal. He was labeled as one.
When a system treats people as disposable, and dehumanizes them, neglect becomes routine.
When neglect becomes routine, people die in custody.
And when they die, the paperwork says released.
A U.S. citizen lost her husband.
And unless this system changes, she will not be the last.

Isnt it a shame that we have to ask members of congress TO DO SOMETHNG.

(8,114 posts)I can't reach my congressman. There is NEVER anyone in his local office and calling is pointless because his staff doesn't clear the messages from the office voicemail so it's full and won't take any more messages.
Ciscomani from AZ is a fucking pig who doesn't give a fig about anyone but ultra rich people who keep him as a pet.

(8,114 posts)He WANTED a private force that was indebted to him and comprised of hostile, violent sociopaths. He is a sadist, but too much of a coward to harm anyone buy young females. He loves his violent criminal ICE gang and lavishes money on them for hurting innocent people so he can get off.

(22,137 posts)This is hitting way too close to home for me. My husband is a late onset type I insulin-dependent diabetic. His blood sugar is under good control now *knock on wood* but he went into diabetic ketoacidosis 3 different times in the past. The first time we weren't sure exactly what was going on at first and waited longer than we should have to take him to the hospital. The other two times we knew exactly what was happening and rushed him to the hospital right away. All 3 times it was terrifying, and all 3 times he had to spend 2 days or more in the hospital, getting his blood sugar stabilized enough to where it was safe for him to come home.
After the last episode, he got a wearable blood glucose monitor which has made it much easy easier to keep things under control. That thing starts beeping any time his blood sugar goes outside the desired range just a little bit, and he can rake immediate steps to rectify things before it gets out of hand.
After what we have been through, reading about that poor man dying of untreated diabetes sent chills down my spine. There's NO WAY they didn't know there was something wrong with him. When someone's blood sugar spikes high enough to be fatal, they get very, very, noticeably sick and eventually lose consciousness. Someone HAD to have noticed that something was off. They obviously didn't give a damn, and figuring they wouldn't face any consequences, they were more than happy to let him fucking die without any medical attention. I hope his family sues for billions of dollars.
There are people who deserve to be criminally prosecuted as well, OF COURSE, and I hope to God that will happen eventually. I don't expect it will as long as the Orange Hellbeast is in the White House, but he won't be there forever, and there's s no statute of limitations on cold blooded murder. Someone needs to pay, and I hope and pray they will.
And there are at least 30 other people who have died in ICE custody? Holy fucking God, what is it going to take? How much longer is this going to be allowed to go on? How many more people have to fucking DIE before somebody DOEX something?
I blame Donald fucking Trump and Stephen fucking Miller and Kristi fucking Noem for this, along with all those who were directly involved, and I also blame every single fucking Republican in the House and Senate for letting this go on unchallenged. They are ALL garbage humans, and I despise every fucking one of them.
