CA-40: Perry Meade (D) Is Out

Sources tell TheLiberalOC that Meade told Congressman Robert Garcia in October he would drop out if Prop 50 passed several weeks ago. Additionally, United Here 11 has not responded to inquires if Meade stepped down from his role managing the union’s PAC to run for Congress or he he took a leave of absence. Meade’s LinkedIn profile showed no change in employment from his Union job even while promoting his Congressional candidacy.

The late House Speaker Tip O’Neill was famous for saying “all politics is local.” Here’s hoping Meade takes that statement to heart and runs for city council or school board to buid a political resume that goes beyond his accomplishments from high school and college that are hard to take seriously. Republicans we talk to familiar with the race were rooting for Meade and his record. They can save that for another election.

Sorces tell TheLiberalOC that Rep. Young Kim is beng encouraged to challenge either Rep. Dave Min or Rep. Derek Tran and surrender CA-40 to Rep. Ken Calvert. CA40 now has more Republicans, but is also have more Latino voters and more voters of modest means hurt bad by President Trump’s policies. Of the remaining candidates, the Democrat who has the best chance of making it to November 2026 must be someone who can appeal to those constituents, independents and never Trump Republicans.
