I share the excitement over Elizabeth Warren. As a Mainer, I should be excited about Angus King, but I do believe that he'll vex us occasionally. I'm certainly proud of Heidi heitkamp and Joe Donelly because NOBODY thought they'd win and I'm proud of Tim Kaine because I just like the guy and he sent Mr. Macaca home AGAIN. My vote, however, is for our first openly gay and very forward thinking liberal US Senator Tammy Baldwin.
Yes. larry craig was gay, but he was a self-loathing and deeply closeted rightist nut, so I don't really count him. He'd not only avoid the log cabin republicans like the plague, he'd probably be one of the first in line to set fire TO that cabin.
Your choice and why?
PEACE!

(7,820 posts)Although I also adore Tammy Baldwin. There are a lot of wonderful Democratic Senators, new and not-so-new.
On the House side, thrilled to see Alan Grayson back in Congress.

(42,770 posts)a country bumpkin and neophyte. I really do not think she has the savvy to sway anyone in the Senate.
Flame away, tell me how great she is, it doesn't matter, she just doesn't seem great to me, sorry.

(6,107 posts)But the senator to be most excited about? He's vaguely pro-choice, and somewhat conservative on other things.
Peace.

(10,237 posts)...but if I'm asking about new Senators it would make sense to ask about ALL of the new Senators.

(22,057 posts)Mazie Keiko Hirono (メイジー・ヒロノ Meijī Hirono?, Japanese name: 広野 慶子 Hirono Keiko, born November 3, 1947) is the United States Senator-elect for Hawaii, filling the seat being vacated by retiring Senator Daniel Akaka. A member of the Democratic Party, she is currently the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district, serving since 2007. Hirono will be the first elected female Senator from Hawaii, the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate, the first U.S. Senator born in Japan, and the nation's first Buddhist Senator.
She was the second Asian immigrant elected lieutenant governor of a state of the United States. She ran against Linda Lingle for governor of Hawaii in 2002, one of the few gubernatorial races in United States history where two major parties nominated women to challenge each other. She considers herself a non-practicing Buddhist,[1][2] and is often cited with Hank Johnson, as the first Buddhist to serve in the United States Congress.[3] She is the third woman to be elected to Congress from the state of Hawaii (after Patsy Mink and Pat Saiki). Hirono was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the upcoming retirement of Daniel Akaka.

(22,143 posts)When there are certain expectations, and with EW they are very high, the slightest hint of sellout brings the whole thing crashing down from on high.

(135,425 posts)She may compromise with the understanding that the perfect is not the enemy of the good, and some people may call that selling out, but that's on them--not her. She will get the best possible outcome available. Of that, I am certain.

(9,527 posts)but then again I already voted for her as I'm in Massachusetts. For me it matters that she's one of my senators and so I can vote for her in the future. It's hard for me to have a feeling of pride or excitement about a senator that I can't do anything about.
MarianJack
(10,237 posts)...even though I'm in Maine. I voted for him to avoid geting a paul lepage in the Senate in the person of teabagger charlie summers. I think he'll be good but Iexpect much more from many ofu our new Dem Senators.
Of course, I'm vey excited about Warren but I knew she'd get the vast majority in this poll, so I voted for Tammy Baldwin to spread the love a little.
PEACE!
