President Donald Trump pushed back on critics who have questioned the state of his health, telling The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Thursday that he denies falling asleep in meetings and takes a higher dose of aspirin than recommended by his doctors.
They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I dont want thick blood pouring through my heart, Trump told the Journal, attributing often-visible bruises on his hands and the makeup he uses to try to cover them to the medication. I take the larger one, but Ive done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising.
Trumps physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, told the Journal in a statement that the president takes 325 milligrams of aspirin a day for cardiac prevention.
Aspirin acts as an anticoagulant, meant to help prevent blood clots from forming. Blood clots that travel to the heart can lead to heart attacks. The medication can also increase a persons risk of bleeding because it prevents clots from forming in wounds.

To be on the safe side, he should increase the dosage of all his meds by 1000%

Even though aspirin can act as an anti-coagulant as well, there's other modern drugs that are probably safer and easier on the gut. I don't think large doses of aspirin are typically used (except in smaller doses, or acute situations like post-surgical clot prevention) for long term clot prevention, but I'm not a doctor. My point is, he's likely on modern blood thinners, like many of us are. Just come out and say it, you fucking liar. Is he trying to minimize that fact by saying that he's taking aspirin because he doesn't like thick blood in his heart?
Now go "shake some more hands" to get the bruises, like your spokeswoman said you got them. Fucking idiot.

(53,319 posts)My dad was on one for decades (coumadin) and I have been on one for past several years (brillinta). I take 81 mg of aspirin each day. I can't imagine he isn't on a real blood thinner along with taking that aspirin which seems rather dangerous.

Good luck with the Brilinta! I don't bleed from cuts too badly anymore, but when I was on the Xarelto as well? Oh boy...

(4,594 posts)For the same reasons that have been outlined. On anti platelet meds and a 80mg asperinI use my beard trimmer without the attachment that defines the length of beard you want. In essence it is small hair trimmer. I get pretty close 'shave' this way without the chance of a cut.

In retrospect, its too bad I took it because it gave them a little ammunition, Trump said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on his decision to get a cardiovascular and abdominal scan in October. I would have been a lot better off if they didnt, because the fact that I took it said, Oh gee, is something wrong? Well, nothings wrong......
Trump gets little sleep and has recently struggled to keep his eyes open during several televised events in the West Wing. Aides, donors and friends say they often have to speak loudly in meetings with the president because he strains to hear. Aside from golf, Trump doesnt get regular exercise, and he is known to consume a diet heavy on salty and fatty foods, such as hamburgers and french fries.
The large dose of aspirin he chooses to take daily has caused him to bruise easily, he said, and he has been encouraged by his doctors to take a lower dose. But Trump has declined to switch because he has been taking it for 25 years. Im a little superstitious, he said in the interview......
Trump denied that he struggles to hear. He also denied falling asleep at recent White House events and said he has always gotten by on little sleep.
The president has sometimes described his medical care inaccurately. He has for weeks said that he underwent an MRI at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in October. When asked about the procedure by the Journal, Trump and his doctor said he got a different form of imaging: a CT scan.......
Of the incident in which Bondi caused his hand to bleed, Trump said, The ring hit the back of my hand, and, yes, there was a slight little cut, Trump said. The cut alarmed some who witnessed the exchange, according to a person with knowledge of the episode. It is one of several instances in which his hand has been cut, aides said.
Trump said he applies makeup to his hands after he gets whacked again by someone. He added: I have makeup thats, you know, easy to put on, takes about 10 seconds.

Doctors will often take patients off of the aspirin therapy if they're on other blood thinners, so he might not be supposed to take aspirin at all. Probably just saw one of those commercials and thought, 'That sounds easy, I'll claim I'm doing that."

(644 posts)We have zero basis to believe any of what he said. In fact, we are far better off assuming it is a lie.
For one thing: he says he's been taking this dose of aspirin for years, but the bruising was really only first noticed in the spring of 2024. Something changed, but they will not tell us what--which is pretty telling in and of itself.
For another: he's used bandages on his right hand lately. You don't need bandages to cover a bruise that you claim can be covered with makeup in literally 10 seconds. Oh yeah, that was a high-five with Bondi...right? Sure.
The safe bet is that it is a lie. What is the truth? We may never know.
But come on black spot. You can do this!
