Great Bluesky post today

Canada: Our Prime Minster studied at Oxford and Harvard, was the Governor of both the Banks of England and Canada, and is recognized as one of the sharpest financial minds around.

America: oh yeah? Our guy has to take dementia tests every week.

Trump is dismantling our medical and science research facilities, throwing out decades of data, and defunding the next generation of scientists. The best and brightest are already being lured away to Canada and Europe.

I still stand by what I've said all along, the people that voted for trump are either bigots, stupid or selfish. Or some combination.

If they believe that God has sent Trump to Christianize the world, there's not much I can say to them. So I don't bother. For one of my contacts I only say "I hope Trump doesn't hurt you or anyone you love with his policies" and I leave it at that.

I am not in contact with those family members.

Which means I am in contact with like three people out of several dozen.

Ah well... my sanity is intact. I cannot say the same for them.

But in the case of trump, too many people threw their vote away in favor of what they thought was a quick fix. This is a problem with the American people as voters.

Somehow what our system has evolved into has allowed the worst and most malevolent person to be elected.

When you have a little time, go read the Wikipedia bio of Kamala Harris. You will wonder how one person could rack up such accomplishments in a single lifetime.

Yet we get trump. Something is very, very wrong.

perfect government, but dammit the Brits are so much more civil, cultured and sophisticated than we are. I’m not crazy about the Royals, but at least they are not posting embarrassing, childish shit online and spending a quarter of their time golfing at taxpayer expense.

while watching one episode of Ken Burns' series on the Revolution. There would have been no Civil War and the unresolved Southern-fried white resentment that has seemed to spread.

First, the Slave Trade Act of 1807 banned the transportation of enslaved people within the Empire, and then the landmark Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 outlawed slavery entirely in most British colonies. Then in 1838 full emancipation was granted to all former slaves in the British colonies.

I pray all Dems turn out to vote in the 2026 mid terms and we gain control of Congress.

The Somerset decision, from the 1772 Somerset v. Stewart case in England, was a landmark ruling by Lord Mansfield that declared chattel slavery was not supported by English common law, preventing an enslaver from forcibly removing an enslaved man, James Somerset, from England.
