Its about oil and regime change.
And they need a trial now to pretend that it isnt. Especially to distract from Epstein + skyrocketing healthcare costs.

(1,924 posts)Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed the U.S. operation that captured Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
In a lengthy social media post, Greene rejected that the operation helped counter drug-trafficking, saying she served on the Homeland Security Committee for the past three years and most of the fentanyl, which is responsible for 70% of U.S. overdose deaths, "comes from Mexican cartels made with chemical precursors from China and trafficked across the U.S. Mexico border."
"If U.S. military action and regime change in Venezuela was really about saving American lives from deadly drugs then why hasn't the Trump admin taken action against Mexican cartels?" Greene wondered.
She went on to note that Trump has recently pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was sentenced to 45 years in prison in the U.S. for drug-trafficking.
"The next obvious observation is that by removing Maduro this is a clear move for control over Venezuelan oil supplies that will ensure stability for the next obvious regime change war in Iran," Greene claimed.
She then claimed that "Americans disgust with our own government's never ending military aggression and support of foreign wars is justified because we are forced to pay for it and both parties, Republicans and Democrats, always keep the Washington military machine funded and going."
"This is what many in MAGA thought they voted to end. Boy were we wrong. As the baby boomers slip away both in votes and power, the electoral future will be decided for candidates that focus on American economic populism and promising prosperity for Americans only. As of right now, neither party is offering the solution," she concluded.
Many Democrats have also condemned the move. Among them is Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), who said "it's not about drugs."
"If it was, Trump wouldn't have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month. It's about oil and regime change. And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn't. Especially to distract from Epstein + skyrocketing healthcare costs," she claimed in a social media publication of her own.
Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego also slammed the operation, saying the development is a "second unjustified war" in his lifetime.
"This war is illegal, it's embarrassing that we went from the world cop to the world bully in less than one year. There is no reason for us to be at war with Venezuela," Gallego said.

(82 posts)For people who still follow AOC on Twitter I would highly recommend following her on Bluesky instead. Elon Musk is part of the reason we're in this mess to begin with so why should anyone support his platform? Twitter is allowing neo-Nazis and inappropriate images of children on their platform. No one can ethically use Twitter at this point.
Here's is her Bluesky post:

(12,470 posts)And then pocket the money. I think Don Jr has a corporation set up to funnel the stolen loot to. It's no different than raiding a country and stealing all their wealth.
I pitty the Venezuelan people. They will be slaves to big oil and pedo Trump humpers.
How many of them died in the attacks? No news outlet had the number of deaths and injuries to the Venezuelan people. It's almost as if the only people in Venezuela were Maduro and his wife.
Maduro is not a dictator so taking him out is not going to guarantee the oil fields will be turned over to the pedo. Maybe the vice president will help out pedo Trump with the transfer.
If I was in her position, I would promise the pedo everything he wants....then consolidate power to be rid of the US.

(23,335 posts)And I'm sure there is a component that involves lining Trump's pockets, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it.
But I will say that as a distraction, it's not very good. Epstein is not going away, and it's not like this news is going to make people forget that their health insurance premiums just doubled (or worse), or that their groceries and medications cost more than they used to.
In fact, people might start wondering why Trump is spending billions to make Venezuela great again while Americans are increasingly struggling to pay their bills.

It's about us having a bad history with this stuff. Yes.Saddam sucked also but we should never have been there.
And Trump has no intention of actually helping the people there. He just wants to steal their things and personally profit from it.

(4,019 posts)If it was regime change, all the actors from the regime would be removed, but many of them are staying so they can obey orders from trump and Rubio. Some, like Vladimir Padrino-Lopez, Diosdado Cabello, who are responsible for the torture and murders of so many Venezuelans (men of all ages, women) will be staying to "help" run things. He is trying to negotiate with Delci Rodriguez, the Vice-President, a crook who comes from a mafia-type family, his dad being a kidnapper of a USA citizen.
The capture of Maduro is just for show.

(4,019 posts)First, let me make clear that I like AOC very much, I think she is very intelligent, has more cojones than many of the men in the Democratic party, and all republican men. I believe she is a very good leader.
She is wrong about "Regime Change" and the clue is very clear. trump wants to bring Delcy Rodriguez, who when Maduro was the president, although illegally, she was, and still is, the Vice-President. She is with Putin in Russia right now, that should tell other stories as well.
A short bio of the Rodriguez family. She has a brother who is as corrupt and criminal as she is, they have robbed Venezuela and are now multi-millionaires, although their first millions of the family came in 1979, three years after their father had kidnapped a businessman who I believe worked for CocaCola, his name was William Niehous. Rodriguez kept him for three years until he received the ransom money then let him go. That was their family's first few millions...Like the saying goes "the apple does not fall far from the tree."
Anyway, trump is trying to get that woman back to Venezuela so that she can become president, and "help shape Venezuela towards a transition", he wants a puppet in the presidency, do you think that is serious "Regime Change"?. Delcy Rodriguez has robbed so much money, and committed so many crimes that she is not worthy of a presidency, she and her brother should be held accountable for their crimes, abd sent to jail for the rest of their lives.
trump has also revealed that he wants hold negotiations with people from the regime. And this is where I find AOC to be wrong about "Regime Change". "Negotiating" with assassins, thieves, from the regime is to legitimize them, that includes Delcy Rodriguez, It is an automatic pardon that will prevent anyone from bringing them to justice. These people from the regime have committed horrible crimes, from torture, to murder, theft, you name it, they have done it. If trump and Rubio were serious about "Regime Change" the USA would be finding, apprehending or eliminating people from the regime responsible for all the crimes committed during Chavez and Maduro's rein of terror, but trump only wants to continue enriching himself, and partnering with those who know how the Venezuelan corruption works is his best way of doing it.
I do think that Maduro needs to be accountable, but he is the least evil of the regime, he was just a puppet, and now a great prop for trump to boast about something that I suspect was planned ahead of time with the rest of the regime, having Maduro as the big prize.

(4,019 posts)Many years ago the USA built compounds, very nice ones, near where the oil was, the USA also built the oil rigs, and set the extraction of Venezuelan oil going. The country benefited very much, there was plenty of employment, but in 1976 Carlos Andres Perez decided to nationalize the industry, and that is when the big pilferage from corrupt politicians began.
But anyway, I have to assume that is what trump is referring to, although I doubt that he knows any of the history, but someone must have told him something and now, like the good parrot he is, he is repeating it.
