(17,647 posts)but, speaking as a professional, I've got to give credit to the US Military SF for their very well planned and execution of this operation with very few, if any, civilian casualties, and no, so far, US casualties.
Don't get me wrong, I strongly condemn this illegal attack on a sovereign nation and the, IMO, illegal kidnapping of Ven. "Pres.", but the planning and speed with which this was carried out is amazing in its complexity and execution.

(143 posts)The missile attacks looked like they weren't targetting anything vital. Seen pictures of blown up shipping containers for example. Helicopters flew into Caracus with no air defense being used? There was stronger anti-air defense in the middle of the wilderness in Afghanistan than we saw last night. Then, Delta walked right into the Palace and took the President and his wife?
None of that adds up unless there was already a plan in place for no resistance from the majority of Venezuelan defenses. It sounds like a few operators might have been shot and a helicopter also. Kind of sounds like a gunfight with his closest bodyguards.
Then today Trump is backing Rodriguez already to take over?
I think this was a plan between the VP (and probably plenty of other upper government members) and the Venezuelan military to give up Maduro and avoid any real direct conflict.

(3,673 posts)Guardian saying 40 Venezuelans were killed. Saw the same number from the NYT
later on DU. On MS NOW Barbara McQuade
mentioned 40 deaths. I may have missed something, but she was the only person I heard mention anything about Venezuelan
deaths in any of the coverage we watched.
