Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) on Tuesday slammed the Justice Department for its delay in releasing its files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein required by law, suggesting legal action could be taken.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has sought to justify the slow roll-out, pointing to necessary redactions and reviews. Still, Massie and other critics have pressed the administration to speed it up after the DOJ missed the Dec. 19 deadline to release all documents.
On Tuesday, the Kentucky Republican doubled down on his criticism of the process, saying those involved in the delay could face legal repercussions, even after the end of the 119th Congress.
Typically, with contempt, you might refer it to the DOJ, and the DOJ never prosecutes, and the problem goes away at the end of the Congress. This law does not expire, Massie told reporters outside the Capitol.
