As far as I know, the SSAdminiistration requires that pension payments be deposited to a financial institution account except in unusual circumstances when a check is mailed.
Are your SS payments being deposited on time?
We have four sources of income:
-- My military pension, which is in our bank not later than the first of each month without fail.
-- Ditto for her state pension from 35 years as public school teacher.
-- Her SS annuity usually deposited on 30/31 of last month or 1st/2nd of current month. In December her SS annuity was deposited on 10th of month, NEVER BEFORE been later than the 2nd. This month --- Jan 2026 -- deposited on Jan 11.
-- My SS annuity which is deposited on third Wednesday of the month. In December my SS annuity was deposited on Dec 23 (4th Tuesday), should have been on 17th (3rd Wednesday). My SS annuity for January is due this Wednesday, 21st.

(2,214 posts)and I didn't. I called them up and got two payments the next month.
But I do worry about it when I see that others have gotten theirs late. This month is one of the months that's it's five weeks between checks and believe me, it's been rough, especially with all the Christmas bills coming due this month.

(33,177 posts)continue to be on time. My SS is always deposited on the second Wednesday of the month (according to my birthday), and the OPM benefit is always deposited on the first of the month, unless it falls on a weekend.
No changes.

Both are direct deposit.
Whats a SS Annuity? Do you get a Retirement benefit or are you talking about a SS Disability benefit?
As people respond, it might be good to clarify physical check or direct deposit since the method of delivery can be the issue.
Since Direct Deposit is automated, there shouldnt be any issues once the process has been firmly established between the Treasury and your bank. Getting a check in the mail can be delayed for various reasons, only some of which can be blamed on the government. And a delay doesnt necessarily imply that the SSA is holding back funds.
And isnt there some sort of debit card arrangement for retirees who cant have a bank account due to a felony conviction?

(19,039 posts)pending to my bank account and available for use on the Tuesday before (I have a really good bank). For 12 years or so now, it's been so reliable my monthly budget is keyed to it.
Now that I've jinxed it, of course, I may never see another cent, with the entire payment diverted to pay into El Cloaca's monthly budget for disposable belly-button lint removers.

(1,762 posts)At those times, the money usually comes the last business day before. My state employee credit union shows my deposit as available then, though the actual deposit doesn't show as a credit until the actual date of deposit.
I'm worried every month that it won't come, though. I can't survive on my own without SS, my son would be paying all the bills like he did before I got SS at 62. I told my son that I know voted Republican that he'll be contributing should I lose my benefits, and the other one will as well. They should pay for being stupid. I love them, but damn.
