Dynamic pricing?

The local safeway has replaced all of their shelf price decals with these. They're obviously digital. Are these the ones that change their price depending on who is walking down the isle?

1. They've always changed prices; this makes it easier for them to do it much more frequently

Gas stations have been doing this for years. Charge more during rush hour, less in the middle of the night, etc.

Same with airlines and hotels.

Grocery stores can be even more data-driven.if inventory is low on something and they know the next shipment isn't for 3 days, they'll jack the price up to make the most out of the few items they have left.

Or again, maybe jack it up more during rush hour when the family chef is shopping for fresh ingredients for dinner and they're in a hurry to get home and feed their family and so can't really spend much time price comparing.

Conversely, they might drop the price on some items that aren't selling and may spoil soon. Just seems that doesn't happen as often as they use technology to justify increases....

2. Stand aways back from it and observe for awhile to see if it changes

Since it states the item is on sale for 50 cents off for a specific timeframe, I would guess that tags like that make it a lot easier to change the price back once the sale ends, instead of having someone changing paper tags
