(112,985 posts)Realize that clinical trials for which there are already established, effective vaccines will be comparison trials (not placebo-controlled, but rather a comparison with the current vaccines, earlier studies having already shown safety and initial efficacy).
*Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis--a deadly mosquito-born virus that was thought to pose a potential thread similar to West Nile, and others.

(1,211 posts)I used to work at an IRB - Independent Review Board for clinical human trials, the board was made up of doctors, ethicists, scientists etc and we stood between the pharma companies and the FDA - overseeing the trials to ensure they were conducted with a high level of ethical standards that included transparency, safety and measured efficacy ....I came to trust the process
That said I can imagine where trump may have screwed that all up that while gutting agencies.....

(1,727 posts)I was on the National COVID response team. A local company routinely does trials. Im a toxicologist. Myself and our team chemist volunteered for the Pfizer shot. Neither of us got the live vaccine but we still volunteered.
