Someone I follow on Bluesky reposted this...
They've changed their faces to please the patriarchy. It's not about what types of women those patriarchal men personally prefer; it's about showing those men that they are willing to submit. And it's a specific kind of look. It shows their willingness to be controlled.

(52,325 posts)but they still freak me out.
I'll never understand how normal looking people would do stuff like that to their face. I know it is some form of dysmorphia that requires therapy, not surgery, but you'd think that once and awhile, they might see a reflection or a photo that might wake them up to how horrifying they look.

(52,325 posts)There are actors who we know have had work done, but they still look like themselves. Jane Fonda comes to mind, though I know there are others. Not sure if it has to do with the expertise of the surgeon or the demands of the client.

(2,969 posts)that they've gone under the knife. The others are pretty dang obvious, though Lara's is the next most subtle, I still deem it unlikely to be natural. The other 7 (edit: Sorry, meant to say 4), it's absolutely glaring to me

(30,376 posts)first question would be is "why does it matter"?...The last thing I'm concerned about in regard to these women is what they do with their faces.
The second would be about your experience and/ or expertise with plastic surgery.. I'm sorry, but I'm going to guess that in your case, and that of most here, it's little to none...just sayin'.

(2,969 posts)But I have watched a lot of people get older naturally, changed hairstyle and makeup, and it doesn't look like this. I suppose in particular I'm not 100% sure what the definition of plastic surgery is (like, do cheek implants count? Facelifts? Nose Jobs?), precisely, so that may a failure in my understanding. Perhaps some of these things they're doing to themselves is not permanent, like things that inflate lips and remove wrinkles and such. But I as I say apart from Leavitt (who def. seems to at least have had a nose job) and perhaps Lara Trump (of this set) I'm very confident at minimum there's injections of various agents, not just hairstyle and makeup changes. And no way have Loomer, Sanchez, and Guilfoyle not had serious surgery, they look way too different, and I'd suspect Noem has as well, but I'm not 100% 'up' on what's possible to do 'chemically'
whathehell
(30,376 posts)quality of 'assessment' here, and a past job working for a plastic surgeon, I'll claim greater knowledge than most here..
That said, the greater point to me is its irrelevance. Women (and increasingly men) of all political stripes choose it, so I find the "shaming" of it a tad dated and juvenile.

(2,969 posts)IOW, if this is the female "look" that the Mar A Lago male crowd prefers, one might argue it's because they're a bunch of closeted subby beta men (nothing wrong with that, to be clear, but I'm sure they don't like being called that, so I will).
That's leaving aside these ladies own personal motivations, which I'm disinclined to proclaim myself as an arbiter thereof, but the authors assessment def. seems plausible

(2,289 posts)All of them were much better looking before. Four of them, legitimately quite pretty. None of them went to bad surgeons. They requested this look. Laura Loomer was a normal. average looking woman, and now she's actually frightening. Like children crying, horses rearing scary. Why would anyone want that? And who are the men that think this is attractive?
