"It seems to be so very hard to maintain detachment of mind in the midst of raging fire. Gandhi
It is frigid in the northeast. It is so cold that when I went out to sweep snow off of my car, the two deer eating where I feed birds just across the driveway didn't run away. They watched me as they were chewing mouthfuls of food, and only took off when I drove down my driveway. Among the items I bought at the store was a massive bag of bird food. I poured more out before going in, and the two deer were back within four minutes.
In the early evening, I put more out. I looked out a window and saw seven deer trotting down, straight to the food, from quite a distance. I'm not sure if the saw me, or smelled the food. Because it is so cold tonight, I just got in from making sure some bird food remains. In about two hours, there will be the same seven deer feeding there. Without moon light, it takes my eyes a while to adjust to see them in the dark. When I was young, I took seeing in the dark for granted.
Chief Waterman told me that the Haudenosaunee consider deer to be the kings of the forest. Thus, they are the only kings I serve. Deer paths are the safest and most important spot in the forest in times of danger. Think back to 1992's Last of the Mohicans, and they were the best place to attack an enemy, too. Attack, disappear and put a small distance between you and them, then follow the deer paths through the mountains. They became the woodland trails that eventually became turnpikes.
I drop this pathetic bag of lard and bones into a comfortable chair. The dog gets off the couch and stares at me, wanting to now be in the chair. !975 wasn't that long ago, I tell her. It's a young person's plot to make my generation feel old. This leaves her speechless, and she returns to the couch and glares at me. I need a distraction from thinking about two horrible things going on in my life at this time, so I turn on the television.
Watching Ben Mekelas on meidastouch, I recognize that the world is witnessing the felon having what is known as a narcissistic collapse in the field of mental health. It is an unpleasant thing to watch. There are certain steps a professional takes to evaluate the person. Thoughts of harming themselves or others, access to weapons, etc. There could be nothing more dangerous than a sociopath in the collapse process having access to ICE, the military, while fully intent upon doing harm to just about everyone.
Yesterday my cousin told me that in his two hour press confusion, the felon insulted Jack Smith. One is safe in speculating the felon is upset that Mr. Smith will be testifying in public tomorrow. I'm willing to admit that if Mr. Smith indicted me for 44 serious felonies, I would also find him intimidating. Well I remember when Mr. Smith was appointed to investigate the felon. Most people here were unfamiliar with him. I wasn't. I said this is the very best person for the job. If you have any doubts, tune in tomorrow to watch him testify.

(78,759 posts)I will be particularly interested in what Lawrence has to say.
I had a couple people approach me in the stores, asking, "Did you watch him? Can you believe this?" Instead of saying, "Why yes. Saw it coming years ago," I spared them and just said it is terrible that the world dislikes/hates this country.

(3,932 posts)Probably after the testimony is over, but I will watch. Very much looking forward to it.
After the orange asshole's batshit performance at Davos, I won't be surprised if other countries start asking what the hell we're doing over here.
He ought to be in a straight jacket.

(78,759 posts)a late night splattering of anti-Smith texts tonight, and a flood tomorrow night. Just a wild guess on my part.
As you know, I converse with some Europeans daily. I know that this has scared children in Greenland. That is terrible.

(78,759 posts)About a half an hour before Mr. Smith testified behind closed doors, the DOJ sent him a text saying there were guidelines about the stolen documents that he could not violate, at risk of breaking the law. But they refused to identify what the guidelines were. His attorney placed this on the record. Yet Mr. Smith is far more intelligent than anyone in the administration, and was able to identify that he could have gotten convictions in this and the J6 cases.

(43,046 posts)If we ever win the presidency again, that man must be the next U.S. Attorney General. He knows a thing or two about how to run a tribunal.
Thanks for perspective, writing talent, and your deer path symbolism.

(78,759 posts)for Attorney General. That would go such a long way when the country's re-instituting the rule of law. And that ability you note is going to be essential for convincing the rest of the world that we are on the road to recovery.
Thank you for appreciating deer paths. The natural world remains my favorite university.

(9,481 posts)He knows he will never see the inside of any prison cell in the corrupt US of A.
Pedo is more scared about the Epstein files because he knows what he did to victims, and if any of that is exposed, the uproar will be unprecedented.

(78,759 posts)After his 2020 spanking by President Biden, the felon told those close to him that he was through with politics. He planned to spend his time playing golf.
Note the day Jack Smith was appointed, and when the felon announced he was again running for president. He was aware that Mr. Smith had the goods to convict him. He was afraid of being incarcerated.
Since then, the felon has attacked Mr. Smith's character repeatedly. Not as much as he insults President Biden. But frequently. This includes advocating that the DOJ indict, try, and convict Mr. Smith for unidentified "crimes."
At the closed door hearing, Mr. Smith spoke about the felon's desire to harm him.
If one has listened to Rep. Jamie Raskin, in my opinion one of the best politicians of my lifetime, it might be best to hesitate to assume the stolen document case is totally unrelated to the Epstein Pedo Files.

(9,481 posts)he would be sentenced to prison. Add to that he was elected POTUS twice.
At best (or worst for him), he would be sentenced to stay in a rich-men's nursing home to be taken care of until life will evade him.

(78,759 posts)Mr. Smith noted while testifying behind closed doors, that both cases can still be brought. We need to elect a Democrat in 2028, of course. And while it is less likely that he would be incarcerated in 2029 than if the cases had gone ahead -- and even if convicted on all 44 very serious felonies before, it wasn't likely. Yet Mr. Smith has stated that incarceration is the just punishment for those crimes. Bur even if not, the felon hates to be disgraced, and hates to be convicted of crimes. These are things that add to his narcissistic collapse.
