(8,754 posts)ICE respected him and made efforts to help him leave.
Yet, the white angry guy was NOT on the side of ICE. He yells at ICE to get out of my city!
He is just a random guy and he became a protester in the moment. Yes!!
The owner of Speedway instantly becomes a protester! Yes!!

(1,435 posts)How a person at a gas station (not sure if its the owner or just an employee) can do the right thing, but corporations like Target and Home Depot just allow ICE to wander around hauling employees away. I dont think Target even issued a statement condemning what tgeu did to that teen that was a US citizen.

It's just a game of intimidation and violence and apparently Congress is more than happy to keep funding them

(2,488 posts)ICE are not police. They have no police powers. They have no authority to enforce any laws other than as pertains to JUDICIAL warrants naming specific people. If they are hanging around intimidating people with their guns and police impersonation costumes, that is a felony assault. Call the real police on them. Demand to press assault charges.

(2,488 posts)illegally impersonating police officers. ICE is not police. They don't have general police powers. They have no authority to enforce any laws except pertinent to specific JUDICIAL warrants having to do with immigration. By wearing fake police uniforms, they are violating Minnesota Statutes 626.863 and should be arrested on the spot. And by displaying guns in a threatening way, that is a felony assault.

(16,874 posts)What makes you think they are going to start now?

(2,488 posts)anywhere in the country. That is exactly my point. Every state has laws about assault and every state has laws about impersonating a police officer. When these goons are acting beyond their remit, they need to be arrested and prosecuted. And that starts by making a 911 call. I have not seen anywhere that anybody has even bothered to call 911 in response to the gang of masked gunmen terrorizing their neighborhoods.
Why not? They all have phones in their hands. It is easy. Open the phone app. Punch in "9" then "1" then another "1".
It starts with us. Make the 911 call. Force the police, Mayor, Governor to make a decision. It does no good to have a judge issue an injunction if nobody calls the police on the goons. If a citizen has suffered an assault, they can demand to press charges.
Then, if the police refuse to act, THIS should be the news. We have to put pressure on cowardly politicians everywhere to stop backing down to Trump.
P.S. Assault is not just physical violence. In every statute I have seen, assault include acting in an intimidating manner that a person can reasonably expect to threaten violence or otherwise restrict their freedom. For example in MN, it is a misdemeanor assault if somebody
(1) commits an act with intent to cause fear in another of immediate bodily harm or death; or
(2) intentionally inflicts or attempts to inflict bodily harm upon another.
And in MN, a person is not allowed to possess a firearm if they are convicted of assault, and doing do becomes a gross misdemeanor, which can be one year in prison and a $3000 fine.
What are we waiting for? Are we a society of laws or aren't we?

(2,488 posts)Please note that assault includes acting in a threatening way. A person can be guilty of assault without touching anybody.
If an ICE agent approaches you on a public sidewalk and asks them if they are a citizen, in a non-threatening way, that is perfectly legal. But nobody has to answer that question. You can simply ignore them and continue n your way.
If they then tell you to stop or else you will be detained, that is an assault if they do not have a judicial warrant naming you specifically.
People should turn on their camera as soon as the agent approaches them (many people do this), and call 911 just as soon as the ICE agent speaks to them. Don't speak to the ICE agent. Tell the 911 operator, "There is a masked man with a gun approaching me and I feel I am being threatened. If he makes any direct threats, I will press charges for assault. Please send a police officer."
That way the assault will be recorded on the 911 system in addition to your phone.

(1,434 posts)And the police not acting should be a crime in and of itself.

(2,488 posts)They love to grandstand in front of a microphone, but how make of these thugs have been arrested in Minneapolis or in New Jersey or in Pennsylvania where the politicians said they were not going to tolerate law-breaking by ICE?
We even have in injunction in Minneapolis yet, not a single arrest of an ICE criminal has happened. And the murderer is still on the loose. They have his name and address, but still no warrant for his arrest?
These politicians must get the picture that this is not acceptable. Ellison (the AG) said it might be years before they prosecute the masked murderer. WTF? This is not a time for cowards to be giving empty speeches. Shit is real.

(16,874 posts)The city would send in someone pretending to be ICE to make a purchase. If they were sold something, the police would then follow up with an arrest.
The fine for alcohol being sold to a minor is up to one year in jail and a $3000 fine for the individual, plus additional fines of several thousands of dollars to the business, and potential loss of a liquor license.
