Democrats are ahead of Republicans by 6 percentage points on a generic congressional ballot, according to a new poll.
In the poll from Emerson College, 48.1 percent of respondents backed a Democratic candidate in a hypothetical 2026 matchup. The Republican candidate garnered 41.7 percent backing in the hypothetical matchup and 10.2 percent were undecided.
The poll comes in the wake of rocky political territory for Republicans, who have been facing criticism over affordability, files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and President Trumps recent foreign policy moves.
Democrats also notched victories in key political races last year, locking down important races including the gubernatorial contests for New Jersey and Virginia.

(7,804 posts)It would probably be at least a 15 point lead if Rupert Murdoch had never come to America and poisoned the minds of millions of Americans.

(26,203 posts)Based on recent election results rather than opinion polls. Meaning, a lot of people excited about Trump, only care about Trump. When they think you're a dictator, they don't exactly care about house and senate races.

(5,545 posts)chances in upcoming elections, who are fond of saying that Trump only has the support of a small percentage of the population, consider these numbers.
Trump has attacked and seized the leader of a foreign country, announcing that he will personally control that country's oil output, sending hundreds of millions of dollars to an account in Qatar all without Congressional approval.
Trump has increased the budget for his personal police force to about the same as the entire Department of Justice, including the FBI, while his police force is shooting people in broad daylight, violently targeting peaceful protestors, and invading peoples homes without warrants.
Trump has threatened to take territory of a very close ally, which would almost certainly destroy one of the most important alliances that the US has, and triggering unprecedented military responses from several other close allies.
Trump capriciously knocked down one of the wings of the White House for no discernable reason and without consulting anyone else in government.
Trump is continuing to twiddle his thumbs while his party acts to destroy the health care plan that 24 million people depend on, even as they passed the largest tax cut in history for the 1%.
Under Trump an unelected oiligarch ran roughshod with his thugs through the Social Security compromising the personal information of the entire country at the same time that these thugs laid off hundreds of thousands of government employees.
These are just a few of the things Trump has done. And he and his party still have around 40% support with the electorate.
If any Democratic president had even suggested one of these actions support for the Democratic party would be below 20%.
The Democratic party must fight like never before and everyone who wants to keep any pretence of democracy in the US must fight. That 10.2 percent who are undecided must be educated and engaged. If you personally are emotionally attached to a Republican supporter and you feel that you have the time and energy even to dissuade them from voting, go ahead and attempt that Sisyphean task. But we must admit the clear and present danger to the US that is the Republican party and the 40% of the US population.
