This Jack Smith hearing is quite the staged production:

Jim Jordan is the Chair of the Committee. He gets in all his talking points and tells the members that they may have to break for a vote on the floor. On C-SPAN, they repeat Jordan's talking points as the Committee breaks. They have time for Jamie Ruskin to make his introductory remarks and time for one more Republican with his canned questions, to make it appear that they have Jack Smith in a lie or to make him defend the January 6th witness that had heard third-hand evidence that Trump tried to get them to turn the limo around and go to the Capitol. They wore that issue out. They smeared that witness all over the floor.

Then they had to break for the vote. It is easy to see that this was all pre-planned to get out their talking points without allowing Jack Smith to get into any of the issues of substance. It is all a staged production, in my opinion.
