Does trump want Greenland because he is confused about its size?

First of all, the researcher believes that Donald Trump may be mistaken about Greenland's size.

"He probably thinks Greenland is bigger than it is," says de Carvalho.

That misconception likely applies to many of us. Because if you look at a typical world map, Greenland and Africa appear nearly the same size. This does not match reality.

"Here you can see how large Greenland (in pink) actually is compared with Africa."

4. The area of land not under ice 365 days a year (at least for now) is about the size of Arizona + Colorado.

The whole island is 22% the size of the 50 states combined. Which isn't small by any stretch, but, yeah. Trump probably made up his mind that it was as huge as it looks on a Mercator projection while sitting in a classroom as a kid and nobody has been able to convince him otherwise. Because that would mean he was WRONG, a concept with which pathological narcissists don't truck.

He probably thinks so-called "globes" showing its size accurately are a Democrat Hoax!!1!

The very first time I saw a Mercator projection of the world on a map, our teacher said: 'This is not actually what it looks like. Land masses get larger toward the poles because you can't get a curved globe onto a flat piece of paper."

I'm talking second or third grade here. Why people can't get that through their heads as adults, I just don't know.
