(4,627 posts)I first became aware of her on the Dick Van Dyke show and its later syndication
as a youngster in the 60s and 70s-----
and watched her own namesake show in the 70s.....

(2,413 posts)I would have expected this response from the Lou Grant (Edward Asner), WJM-TV character...
May other memorable Minne-who-vians speak up LOUDLY as well in the days to come...
I could never picture Mary using that language until now. You go girl!!

(5,234 posts)During the 1960s and 1970s, Moore had a reputation as a liberal or moderate, although she endorsed President Richard Nixon for re-election in 1972.[96] She endorsed President Jimmy Carter for re-election in a 1980 campaign television ad.[97] In 2011, her friend and former co-star Ed Asner said during an interview on The O'Reilly Factor that Moore "has become much more conservative of late"; Bill O'Reilly, host of that program, stated that Moore had been a viewer of his show and that her political views had leaned conservative in recent years.[98] In a Parade magazine article from March 22, 2009, Moore identified herself as a libertarian centrist who watched Fox News. She stated: "when one looks at what's happened to television, there are so few shows that interest me. I do watch a lot of Fox News. I like Charles Krauthammer and Bill O'Reilly... If McCain had asked me to campaign for him, I would have."
Apparently she was a victim of Fox propaganda after the untimely death of her son.

(54,565 posts)It was during Vietnam and I'm certain the production wanted as sizable an audience as possible.

(54,565 posts)As it were, the suits were uncomfortable with a single/never-married woman striking out on her own and was happy. She didn't need a husband to protect her and comfort her. If it weren't for the ratings (and the fact that TSF wasn't in the WH), the show would have been yanked. CBS had enough on its plate with All In The Family.

(7,361 posts)The typical stupid US voter decided to trash that ideal when they worshipped that jackass ronnie rayguns. All downhill ever since. Pathetic.
