I believe a group of Proud Boys were given permission to make an example, especially to those photographing events.
Their actions escalated the violence at every turn - deliberately.
They had no reason to shoot once they had removed the gun.
The promise of qualified immunity pulled the trigger.
Alex was dead as soon as he first walked out on the street and the agents spotted him filming.
Agents fled the scene and no one knows who they are. How exceptionally convenient.

They can make an argument for ICE, but not for BP at this point.
Not that they care about silly things like laws.

(18,928 posts)towards that sort of end. Some such event becomes inevitable in those circumstances.
They constructed DHS/ICE/CBP to function in that manner, and so it does.

(23,485 posts)take out Alex Pretti ahead of time, on that specific day at that specific time. But as you say, at the very least, it seems clear that these agents are on a hair trigger. They're armed with lethal ammunition and encouraged to use force at every opportunity, rather than de-escalate situations. They probably pump each other up all day long about getting the chance to whack an "illegal" or a "libtard." And the signal has come down from the very top of the US government that they should consider themselves immune from any consequences.
So this specific murder might not have been pre-planned, but the circumstances that led to it were pre-planned, in the sense that if you cut the brakes on a train at the top of a hill, that train is inevitably going to derail at some point.
They were expecting and encouraging violence so the administration would have an excuse to take over blue cities and states.

(3,517 posts)That phrase is a signal to kill. To me he was ordering hit jobs. I would like to one recorder (some call them reporters) ask him the question to his face.

(8,511 posts)Nothing like having a gun registered to someone else if you wanna do some gun criming, or might need a 'throw down' gun to leave with a body you just dropped yourself. That old 'he had a gun' thing goes far for a bad cop's defense of a bad shoot.

(15,188 posts)Push and push until someone snaps and an agent gets killed, then declare Martial Law, and f*** the Constitution.
This is the final push for reliance of the Businessmen's Revolt against FDR.
They keep wanting to pretend their version of Capitalism is the best, and they really hated giving up their influence (Banking, Mining, Fuel, and Infrastructure) cabal franchise of the Gilded age to the Prohibition Mobsters.
They're willing to burn down the world so they can die with the most power and toys. How dare the Plebs disrespect their Lineage or Wealth?

(1,522 posts)They have the tactical awareness of a tree stump as evidenced by things like getting distracted and losing track of the delivery guy on a bike or a car at a gas station. They can't plan a team lunch much less an intentional murder. This is piss poor training, management screaming at them because Trump is screaming at their management, and the stress of realizing that most people hate them putting them in a position where they make murderous decisions because they lack the skills and the desire/ability to learn the correct skills to do better.

(8,511 posts)Victims of Miller's program against everyone and victims of their own ignorance, arrogance, and greed. They are all broken tools that will eventually be dumped by the guys on top. Too friggen stupid to see how they are being set up.
What they need is therapy. But prison will work too. Just get 'em off OUR streets. And tell Miller to put on big boy pants and fight his own battles himself. Watch that chicken hawk run.

(5,230 posts)I do think that it is possible that ICE, at whatever level, was looking to stir things up, to take things to the next level. I think that it is possible that the agents saw that he had a gun and decided to target him specifically for that reason since they could more easily paint him as an instigator at the very least. When he first was down one of the agents can be heard asking "Where's the gun". Clearly it was not just the agent who grabbed the gun and walked away who knew that he had a gun. Perhaps they saw that he had a gun when he bent over to help the lady. Perhaps they have some technology which allows them to tell when someone has a gun on them.
Either way, I personally would never, ever, under any circumstances endanger myself or other protesters by carrying a gun in a protest. You will never come out on top of the police who are trained in tactics and firearm use, who act together and have infinite reinforcements, and who are almost certainly going to be judged to be "in the right" legally. The most that you could hope for is a settlement which pays to help bury you and hopefully helps your widow and orphans.
If there is some undercover agent provocateur, they are most likely either police or police adjacent. Following them and trying to identify them is all that you can do.

(1,226 posts)Maybe not targeted towards Renee and Alex specifically, but a generic "go assassinate some protesters for the dear leader" 🤬 All as pretense for declaring martial law if they push far enough and a whole crowd were to fight back violently 😫

FakeNoose
(40,704 posts)Maybe they've got orders that if one of them shoots, they should all get in on it. That way, no one person gets blamed for being "the killer." I don't know how I feel about this. It sounds too much like a circular firing squad.
mzmolly
(52,714 posts)But to shoot when somebodys no longer a threat seems odd. Is there a bounty on the number of bullets they can put into someones body? Why were they counting the bullet wounds on Alex Pretti?
FakeNoose
(40,704 posts)Witnesses reported up to 10 shots were fired, and I doubt they were all from the same weapon.
