Rand Paul: "There has to be an investigation. I don't know who trusts an investigation done by DHS when they're the ones calling this person an 'assassin,' a 'domestic terrorist,' saying he was assaulting police. How can they be in charge of an independent investigation? Something's got to happen."

to MAGA Nazis on the political spectrum. A mistake most people make is to believe that politics is a single dimension, a line that runs "left" or "right". That has never been the case.
In normal times, we wouldn't have much in common with the Pauls or the Koches. But these are not normal times. When the Nazis run around executing people for speaking their mind, and try to justify it with "he had a gun at a protest", this is anathema to Libertarians. I'm not sure what animates Thomas Massie, but he clearly is not a MAGA Nazi.
We need to be that clear democracy requires a certain amount of disagreement on policy, and that is healthy. Where we are today, the fact that we likely disagree on policy with people like Paul and Massie (and Murkowski and others) must be secondary to defending the democracy, Constitution, and rule of law. We need to set policy differences aside for the moment and join with anyone who has a good faith interest in saving our democracy.

(11,094 posts)In this case, while he remains an enemy of the future, he does have cachet with voters beyond the reach of the normal Democratic coalitions. I would never trust him in a million years, but I welcome ALL voices raised against the current abomination in our governance...

(173 posts)Obama and Biden didn't use violence when deporting undocumented people. They deported more and were humane, unlike the felon rapist in our WH.

(1,878 posts)you were a key player with bringing this group of so called Republicans into power and keeping them there......screw you.
You Republican Politicians all created a Frankenstein's Monster, intentionally keeping him in office, and haven't a clue on how to stop him.....(or maybe, could it be...... you just don't want to remove him from office...............

But as it is, ALL the Democrats, united, will have to fight them tooth and nail to make anything change.

(17,335 posts)They do not want government interferring in their lives or the lives of others. That's why you see Paul consistently be against foreign wars and interventions.
You can disagree with Paul's policy beliefs, but he is consistent in voting in accordance with them.

Not a sign-up sheet for the Rand Paul Fan Club. So yes...I am not encouraging anyone to change what they think about him. He's still Rand Paul, he's still going to say and do things that disappoint and anger people.
But in this one little snapshot, I can't argue with what he said. Thanks for framing it as you did. It matches my intention.
