Joaquin Castro visits Liam in the Detention Center in Texas

Just visited with Liam and his father at Dilley detention center. I demanded his release and told him how much his family, his school, and our country loves him and is praying for him.

I hope it is just that he is napping in his father's arms.

He doesn't look like the strong little boy in the blue bunny hat, and the vibrant boy as shown in his school picture.

I am glad Joaquim Castro has eyes on the situation.

I just visited Liam and his father. I also met with countless more children and families who have done nothing wrong and should not be detained.

My full update on visiting the Dilley detention center:

Abolish 🧊 now. Bring those prisoners home. Bring those children home. They are not the terrorists you are looking for. The terrorists are in the Whitehouse and the GOP.

We're going to have to do better America. We've been sleep walking through our history lessons, we got caught in the spider web of complacency. We let this happen slowly over time. The spider was patient, playing the long game.

I've been thinking this afternoon. Why does MAGA and Co hate Mexican people so much? Generally speaking, Latinos are very hard working, their children love and respect them their whole lives. Marriage lasts a life time, far more often than Euro Americans do,
they are really faithful Christians who walk the talk of Jesus, they are beautiful looking people, they have close community and cultural mores filled with tradition. And I could go on. My point, is why would they hate people who live this way? Because, these are the values they purport to cherish more than anything. Could it be because their lives don't stand up in comparison? Are Latinos doing a better job being good Americans?
So instead of asking themselves, why does my life suck? Why don't my kids respect me? Why am I divorced, and always struggling with money? Why am I an alcoholic? Why do I hate my meaningless job and feel hopeless? And here are these Mexicans, working the worst of the worst jobs there are in this country, but, they aren't angry at everyone. They are grateful for what they have and they give back to society because they are grateful. And they actually do go to church on Sunday.
So, why blame those brown people and not see that the institutions that did most of this to you?
Because, we were trained to think this way, so we wouldn't hold our government/big money accountable. And hating is just easier.
